Today we’d like to introduce you to Britney Franklin.
Britney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had an interest in the human body and how to heal with a natural approach. I moved to Charleston in 2010 and was trying to figure out how to make a living doing something I believed in. I attended the Trident Tech Massage Program and instantly fell in love with the practice. I have worked for different clinics/spas over the past ten years which has allowed me to really dive into my passions and my place in the world of healing. I started my Reiki training in 2018 and have been on a personal and professional journey ever since. I opened Awaken Massage and Reiki in March 2021! The feeling of creating a business I am so passionate about is a feeling of pride I’ve never felt before. There is still so much I want to explore and learn; this is only the beginning for Awaken!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! I have worked in environments that didn’t help me thrive/learn and that is always hard for me. I don’t like to be stagnant. I also had to struggle with finances when I first started, which had me working two, sometimes three, jobs at a time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Reiki Master Practitioner. I specialize in therapeutic massage, lymphatic drainage, cupping/Gua Sha, and energy work. I believe in the power of touch, and I’ve seen so many amazing things happen when we dive into our own bodies. I believe in my work and I find that when I allow my intuition to be the guide, I can really help people. The relationships I have created over the years is what I’m most proud of. My clients are like family to me, I trust them and they trust me and that has created a connection that is rooted in the true power of healing. I often think my clients help me just as much as I help them.
Awaken is a safe place. That means something different to each person that walks through my door, and each session is its own. It is a place to heal, release, talk, rest, breathe, ground, and sometimes even laugh. I offer a wide variety of techniques within my treatments, and I listen to the clients’ needs as we talk before the service begins. I listen to the tone of their voice, their body language, and their words to determine my approach that day. I offer therapeutic massage, prenatal massage, Reiki sessions, and cupping/Gua Sha. My favorite service is the massage and Reiki Combo which is a 90-minute service and is so relaxing for body and mind.
How do you define success?
I think success is being proud of the work you do. With that comes the desire to learn, grow and be passionate.
