Exploring Life & Business with Audrey Moran & Kori Borneman of Opal Aesthetics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Audrey Moran & Kori Borneman.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
Kori and I (Audrey) met in college, sharing the same passion for skin wellness. Fast forward to almost 15 years later, we found ourselves in different places of life, with loads of experience gained from our respective fields. We wanted to harness that exciting energy by opening our very own medical aesthetic spa in Charleston, specifically on Johns Island. The idea and concept of Opal Aesthetics was born a little over a year ago. Kori and I saw the excitement of the aesthetics industry and wanted to bring our passion to life! The name Opal does have meaning behind it. Kori and I are born a day apart in October, both being Libras with our birthstones being Opal. Opal also has other unique meanings. Opals, while all beautiful, are all slightly different, similar to our faces. Opals also radiate light, which is what we all hope for with our skin! It was extremely important to us that our brand had meaning behind it!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to building Opal Aesthetics has had its ups and downs – that’s for sure, but what sets Kori and I apart is how we’ve dealt with those setbacks. Excitingly, we are building out our space in a new development on Johns Island called Hayes Park.  We’ll have our own stand-alone 2600+ sqft. building with an extremely elegant and luxurious environment. With the design and built out comes the challenges of construction and permitting delays, which have been our greatest task to tackle thus far. We’re excited to say that we’ve submitted the final step of our permitting and should wrap up construction by late summer!  With the unforeseen construction delays it caused us to pivot and open an Opal Pop-up studio in West Ashley for the time being. It’s appointment only and allows us to service our clients and build our brand as we prepare for the opening of the main ‘Opal’ on Johns Island. When we look back on the journey thus far, Kori and I both agree, though the timing wasn’t how we had originally planned, the way everything has fallen into place has been perfect. Once we open the doors to Opal Aesthetics at Hayes Park, we will add more robust services to our treatment menu as well as expand our team of providers to bring on Estheticians and other cosmetic injectors.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Opal Aesthetics?
We are a dynamic duo, one Nurse Practitioner and one Business guru. Kori has been in the medical field for over 14 years and as a Nurse Practitioner for the past four. Audrey has vast business experience ranging from a successful skincare startup brand to Private Asset & Risk Management. We both have specialties and exciting experiences that enrich our partnership. Our blend of medical and business knowledge aligns us for success in many ways. At Opal Aesthetics, we specialize in skin wellness, aging prevention and helping our patients feel more confident in themselves. What sets Opal Aesthetics apart is our goal of education and transparency with our patients. It should be a conversation between the practitioner and patient, not one way! We want everyone who walks into Opal Aesthetics to feel comfortable and walk out feeling confident, educated and empowered!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The aesthetics industry is evolving in a BIG way – a bit “wild, wild, west.” The period of Covid brought so much light to this industry- some good and some bad. There are a lot of gray areas regarding regulatory topics in Aesthetics. Because of that, over the next 5-10 years, we can see the industry becoming more standardized with greater formal education and protocols for providers. We can also see more treatment modalities as consumers become more transparent about getting neurotoxins, fillers, and other aesthetic treatments.
