Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Gadson.
Hi Tyra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My hustle became serious during my undergraduate years. Before that, I generated revenue for myself in high school through Posh-mark. I didn’t need money to pay for school, but rather funds for leisure. Cost’s for hair, nails, clothes, and other necessities added up very quickly.
Cosmetics is very popular with the younger crowd so in a way I felt like my small business could work for me. I often went to Atlanta to sell at local lounges where I would sell out each time.
During this time, I identified as Sadai’s Parlor. Sadai’s Parlor consisted of cosmetics, accessories, and more! I want to give credit to the beauty industry for even existing. The funds produced from Sadai’s parlor were able to create stability for me and take care of Annuities due.
After finishing undergrad, I charted into a whole new territory. Vending machines. It’s a great way to provide a service by generating passive income. Now, I identify as Young Vending LLC. Young Vending is a perfect name to describe the owner, me!
I currently have one location in downtown Columbia, S.C. and I’m looking to install my second machine. If my second machine is installed in a local YMCA, high school, elementary school, etc then a portion of the proceeds with being used to fund back-to-school supplies and serve as a Young and influential speaker.
Sadai’s Parlor is separate from Young Vending LLC. Extra inventory may still be available for purchase by website and email only. Young Vending LLC can be reached by Instagram only
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The business was always not in operation.
As a woman, other things were important to me so I chose to spend my money elsewhere. It was disappointing to know that I would not always make a sale or I did have inventory or I needed new media content.
Another obstacle I faced was competition. Women preferred the effects of longer-lasting beauty appearances such as eyelash extensions. At that point, I was losing money and knew I had to make a change.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My professional work history is very extensive.
I have experience in hospitality, food and beverage, Amazon warehousing, childcare services, and more. My first job was Guardian Angels Sitting Service. I was paid more than my worth and for that, I’m grateful for the experience.
As of 2022, I have a bachelor of science in business management. I’m a member of one of the divine nine organizations, Zeta Phi Beta Incorporated, I work as an accountant specialist at a law firm all while keeping my vending machine business up and running.
The go-to strategy that sets me apart from others is to allow my demeanor, personality, and charisma to attract the need and desires of my potential customers.
What’s next?
The sky is beyond the limit! Going back to school is an open option but not preferred.
Expanding my business, Young Vending LLC. I also plan to work on marketing content and host events that would allow me to give back to the community.
I have to give a special shout-out to my mother, Mrs. Carolyn for doing so for a particularly low-income housing community. There, she sets up bounce houses, food, music, face painting, and more. I strive to do the same.
