Daily Inspiration: Meet Tiara Scarlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Scarlett.

Tiara Scarlett

Hi Tiara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my modeling career at the start of my lowest point. In the summer of June 2023, I was supposed to be moving with my then husband and step child who I had raised her kindergarten year while he was pcs overseas remotely,…instead I was told we were getting divorced and all jobs and the home that I had were lost. Shortly after I found out her had a romantic affair while gone that year. Whilst having to stay with a friend on an air mattress, I found a model/photography group on Facebook and did my first photoshoot with Heath Productions. I dived right into modeling and did a lot of trade for print (tfp) and worked with a lot of amazing photographers along the way. Movement had always been easy because of my dance background and I found many photographers seeking me and my skillsets to also build their portfolio. This led towards paid work based on my profile on instagram.

Runway was the next step. I am a petite model so no Charston Fashion Week for me but there were shows that were more body, age and height diverse. Fly Modern Apparels Runway show led me to walk for NUE Charleston Magazines fashion shows that gave me great exposure to then be asked to walk for the Gullah Gala and more fashion weeks shows after that. After my first big show with Nue Charleston, Richard Kallisher (the owner of Nue Charleston Magazine) and I met and I later created Nue Dance Runway which I curated, directed, and choreographed pieces for the show. With his support, assistance, and connections. Dancers and models worked together to create a wonderful and exciting show that people are still asking for me to curate.

Now during this time, I did have to save and get rid of debt. I am in the midst of a seperation, living at home at the graciousness of my father. I’ll add my father was the biggest blessing in a traumatic time and supported my new career track to the highest ability. Whilst I originally, worked as a dance teacher for Dorchester District 2, a competitive dance studio, and coached a competive high school dance squad. I had quit those to move with my family and now had no options for my same field. Contracts for dance teachers were completed months before. I found an amazing daycare It Takes A Village. That allowed me to grow as a human and continue to pursue my new career, but I had to decide what I wanted to do. I auditioned, kept doing tfps, emailed business in other locations, and looked into talent agencies.

I worked the daycare for a year, I cut all communication with my ex from the start, I saved, searched and studied models/castings along the way. In May of 2024 I signed with two agencies. One global (Nymmg) and one in the Carolinas (Millie Lewis). I had also decided it was time to pursue modeling, dancing, MC work, and now acting as a career. I lost a year sacrificing as a mother, wife and care taker of the home. Then I gained it back in a year ten fold. So it was time to move to Charlotte to continue as a talent!

Castings have been easier to find. I’ve done a bridal shoot (the irony is uncanny and quite funny) I have done a commercial for a PSA. I have walked New York Fashion Week and did a shoot for Lawrence Pizzi’s designs. I’ve gotten more paid work for shoots and more. I look at my life as an ode to the doors that closed so that multiple better doors could be opened. I would not have it any other way!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. I made less money, I constantly learned more of my ex husbands beteayal along the way through friends, and there were more no’s for auditions and castings along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a model, dancer, Emcee, and actress. I specialize more in modeling, dancing, and hosting for shows. I am known mostly for my choreogeaphy and modeling. I am proud of my ability to take my lowest point and make my life better. I made the choice to do the things I was afraid of or didnt believe I could do because of the standard requirements. I am a dancer with a lot of energy so my movement is more fluid and my persoanlity is engaging.
