Daily Inspiration: Meet Raquel Carrasquillo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Raquel Carrasquillo.

Hi Raquel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in PR but we moved to Chile in 2004. I have been baking since I was in college, when I had kids I started baking for them but when they get older I have more spare time and they only eat one or two sweets so I was thinking, who is going to eat all of this baked goods? One day I decided to put an ad on a page that sells things at my kids’ school, an International school with a big Expat community. We start baking every week for the school community and it was a huge success. Then I move to Greer, South Carolina in 2014 and keep baking until now. Thanks to all my friend Expats in Chile who were looking for some sweets like they have back at home Rachel’s Cupcakes was created! I love when people are delighted by my treats.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
At first, in Chile, was so easy but back in the States was more complicated. I don’t know anyone at my kid’s school, I wasn’t involved in any school activities because I was afraid of speaking English. But I started doing some baking from my Puertorrican friends here in Greer and thank God to Instagram and Facebook, people start reaching out to me..I love it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I mentioned before that I was afraid to speak English but now I work as an Interpreter for kids with special needs and their families and I love my kids and my families, I am so proud when they accomplished a task and I helped them understand! I feel that I am doing something for the Latino community! Also, I bake for them.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me happy. I have 4 wonderful kids and I am so proud of them. A loving husband who takes us on a great adventure by moving us to South America and meeting so many people from all over the world. Also every time I delivered a baked good, my heart is full. I love what I do!

Que alegria me ha dado saber de ti y conocer tu historia. Siempre recuerdo lo hermosa y cariñosa que eras de pequeña y la niña adorada de sus sus padres y los tios (a). Mis mejores deseos para ti y éxito! Naty
