Today we’d like to introduce you to Quintin Washington.
Hi Quintin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
“Quintin’s Close-Ups” started in May of 2012 from a vision of God in Heaven to provide a public service to the Lowcountry. I was doing something similar with my interview Web show on a local cable access station, WLCN-TV. But God wanted me to get more exposure. So, with a Flip camera in tow (handed down to me by an old friend), I randomly went around Charleston, interviewing notable Charlestonians and getting to know them in a one-on-one interview format. My first interviewee was attorney and current Charleston County Council member Larry Kobrovsky in May 2012. The interview was about his experience running for Congress, working on the Charleston County School Board in his past life, and living in the Lowcountry. From there, through the grace of God, I have taped over 2,000 interviews since that time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. In most interviews, the audio or video would be bad, but I have improved. Those were some of my struggles.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in broadcast journalism and am known for my in-depth video interviews with newsmakers across the Lowcountry. So “Quintin’s Close-Ups” is a local public affairs interview Web show in which I interview newsmakers almost daily. I am happy to provide public service to an area I grew up in and love.
What sets me apart from others? I do in-depth interviews, seek the truth, and hold those in power accountable with that format.
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Use social media to your advantage. That’s the best way to find mentors and network with people in the arena.
