Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalia Suarez.
Hi Natalia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am Natalia Suarez, originally from Colombia, and I am a health professional administrator with 10 years of experience in the field in the city of Medellin. However, together with my husband and my oldest son, we had to emigrate while I was pregnant with our second child, and now I have three children. My husband is a graphic designer and architectural drafter, and I love managing and socializing with others. Because of that, I thought of a business that we could do from our home, so that we would be able to spend more with our family and do something we really enjoyed; Hence, DECORINSPIRE was born. This is a business that offers decorative products with personalized printing, we print on acrylic, wood, canvas, glass and aluminum.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Starting over again in a new country was not easy. We left behind our family and friends, and came to a country where the language and culture were very different and where we were not able to work in our profession. All of these factors made us feel strange, but this experience has strengthened us and has taught us that difficult situations are a great school, and I know that many immigrants can identify with us.
I started working as a housekeeper and my husband in construction. While working, I found myself wishing that we could work in something that we were passionate about, as I believe that it is one of the most important criteria to be happy. During that time, I was a volunteer at the PASOs social work program, and I learned about the Hispanic Alliance. I attended a course they offered called, How to Start a Business, and from that moment, I made the decision to start working on my business plan. This plan took me about a year and a half to accomplish.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to materialize ideas because decorative products can truly define the style of the place. That is why our motto is: “Transform your space,” because the decorations of a place can consciously or unconsciously influence our state of mind. Actually, many studies indicate that the perception of colors, objects, and messages generates different emotions in people, and that is precisely what we want to accomplish: to generate positive emotions.
One of the services that we provide that has brought me a lot of excitement is our photo editing services. Many immigrants ask us to edit photos to include people that they have not seen for a long time or who have already passed away, and when the client receives the product, they feel many emotions as they see their loved one displayed on the photo as requested.
We also have the purpose of promoting bilingualism in Hispanic families, since it has many advantages such as better job opportunities, greater mental flexibility, etc.
