Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Sharp.
Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Megan Sharp. I have been married to my husband for 5 years and we have 2 beautiful girls (3,5). We live in Hernando, Mississippi. I have been a hairstylist for over 15 years. When the pandemic hit my salon was forced to close down and ultimately shut down for good. I still do hair on the side but I felt a calling to be a preschool teacher at my daughter’s school. I reached out to the director and got a job as a Mother’s Day Out teacher to now a 3K teacher.
In July of 2021, I started to plan a trip to Disney for my family. I reached out to a travel agent to help me but I did a lot of research on my own for months on end. It was to the point my husband was tired of watching all things Disney before October came around. I like to save money and love getting good deals so I switched my room about 4 times until I found the budget that was perfect for our family. I felt my particular agent was in it for the top dollar so when I pushed our budget down I felt less important on her list. When we got back from Disney (the best vacation my family has been on) I decided to look into becoming a travel agent. I wanted to help those people that wanted to save money and get the best deals. I reached out to a ton of different agencies with mostly no replies. I finally got a call back from Jill with Never Grow Up Vacations and she was willing to give me a shot.
At first, I just wanted to focus on Disney and Universal but realized there are so many other beautiful places that people would love to see! I did many months (and a lot of long nights) of training for different resorts and still do as much training as I can get my hands on. I found a passion for travel like never before. I do vacations from anywhere here in the US to countries all over the world. I have traveled to so many places from the time I was born until now. My absolute favorite place to go is Florida. We have owned a house in Panama City Beach since the ’70s (which my grandparents purchased). So that has pretty much been my second home. I have been all over from the west and east coast (at least 18 states total) to the Bahamas.
My goal is to be able to help people find the best deals and budgets for their families without breaking the bank. I want to give them a vacation they never dreamed of and be available for any and all questions that might come along the way.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been easy trying to get where I am now. It took reaching out to a ton of people and not getting any answers. But I did finally get my chance. It has been a lot of late nights for training and researching. And this is the travel industry there are a ton of different agents that you compete with and business comes in spurts. But I love what I do so to me it is worth it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do specialize in Disney and Universal. I also have extensive training in Marriott, AMR Resorts, Orlando travel, and many others. I guess what sets me apart from others is the research I do to find the absolute best deals for each of my clients up until the day they leave for their vacation.
Who else deserves credit for your story?
God first. Then my husband. He has been my biggest cheerleader the whole time I have been doing this. He has dealt with nights that I have stayed on my computer for hours. The biggest credit I have to give to him is the design of my logo. I had a vision and he absolutely nailed it! My parents have a business and my mom created the design for the shirts that I give out to all my clients before they go on their vacation.
