Hi Mecca, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am the owner of Dove Love Hand Designs, LLC a mobile natural hair salon. In working with my clients, I learned of the struggles many women have in taking care of their natural hair. I thought, if women are experiencing this, then girls must experience this as well. Under Dove Love Hand Designs, LLC I started to provide free head wrapping events in the community for public libraries and schools. This opened the opportunity for me to conduct additional workshops in the community which birthed my nonprofit organization, Embracing My Natural, Inc.
Embracing My Natural, Inc. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women to embrace their natural hair. We provide workshops and events on natural hair care and are the originators of Natural Hair Blessing Bags. Natural Hair Blessing Bags are bags that contain a variety of natural hair products and hair tools from natural hair companies and brands. We distribute these bags to girls and women in underserved communities at various times throughout the year.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
When I first started the nonprofit, I was doing everything myself – monitoring our social media, responding to emails, networking and making connections in the community, facilitating workshops, etc. Now I have a small team that helps to take on many of these tasks. We are now in year 3 and we have reached many of our goals, expanded our team, and have persevered during the pandemic; but there is always room for improvement.

My favorite podcast is Women are Power Podcast (find them on Instagram: @womenarepowerpodcast). It is a podcast geared towards new and aspiring women entrepreneurs – providing advice, guidance, and resources.
My favorite books are: The Four Agreements, Emotional Intelligence 2.0, the John Grisham series, the Harry Potter series, and of course Embracing My Natural, Inc. Natural Hair Coloring Book (now available on Amazon or our website!).
