Today we’d like to introduce you to Margie Graddicks.
Hi Margie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I started at Empire Beauty School in Manhattan in June 2013 and graduated in February 2014. I’ve worked in a few hair salons, but it wasn’t successful because I had no following clients. I’ve worked as an independent contractor for an on-demand beauty company for a year and 9 months. Things didn’t work out due to the issues with transit and some unhappy customers. Now, I’m trying to find a way to continue promoting my business on my social media platforms. I’m doing my best to make it look good.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
It started out going well, and I started having issues with transportation on the weekends. I’ve struggled to get to clients on time due to transportation issues, and some reported that I was late. I was en route to an appointment, and the client reported that I was late, and the company wrote me up for it. Sometimes I left my house early enough because of this issue and still had issues. The company eventually had to let me go, so now I’m trying to find another way to make my career more productive. It’s not easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a Freelance Make-up Artist and hair stylist here in NYC. I enjoy traveling on demand to my clients to suit the occasion’s needs. I go above and beyond to ensure they are comfortable with my services and, hopefully, to be booked again by the same clients. Some loved my work, and some didn’t.
What does success mean to you?
I define success as putting God before anything else and allowing Him to take control of things I can’t. I define success as practicing what I want to improve and doing it until there are no more problems to improve.
