Daily Inspiration: Meet Lataryn Rainey-Perry

Today we’d like to introduce you to the creative maven, Lataryn Rainey-Perry. Lataryn is a mother, wife, multiple business owner and veteran (USMC).

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as an entrepreneur began in 2012 after I self-published my first novel and started my own publishing company known as, Penwork Publishing LLC.

Due to the challenges and lack of informational resources that I had at the time, I decided to dedicate my time to serving authors so that their book writing and publishing experience would be as smooth and stress-free as possible. Writing has always been my first love and I truly enjoy the process it takes to visualize and execute a story. There are so many elements that go into writing and publishing, some that people tend to overlook because they don’t have the proper knowledge. Through Penwork, I make sure to educate the authors while ensuring that their immediate publishing needs are met.

I’ve always been a person who created spaces for the things that either I felt that I lacked or things that people voice that they needed. My annual You Go Girl Brunch & You Go Girl magazine is an example of that. When I started this event in 2017, I felt that the community for entrepreneur women was too small. There weren’t many events that spotlighted women and their businesses, so I created one.

I later created a support group for entrepreneurs in 2019 known as The Creative Circle where we meet twice a month virtually to discuss life and business goals while acting as accountability partners for one another.

Community building is something that is very important to me. It makes me feel good when I know that there are people I can reach out to or recommend for assistance with just about anything. The secret sauce to success is being connected to the right people and I’m grateful to be able to do so through my platforms.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Yes, somewhat. I’ve faced many challenges along the way especially with finding reliable help. Having a solid team is a goal every entrepreneur has and this is still a goal of mine.

I’ve faced the challenges of hiring and firing people, not having enough resources, dealing with unruly clients, the anxieties of failure, and feeling like I wanted to throw in the towel on more than one occasion. However, instead of allowing those challenges to take me out, I rolled up my sleeves and started picking out all the things that were working for me and discarded everything that didn’t.

Once I found a process that worked, I began to build from there. I still face some challenges now, but I’m better equipped on how to handle them. Thanks to my past experiences.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well, I specialize in the art of storytelling.

I am most known for my ability to pull stories out of people through visual and written content. I am also most known for my ability to give creative guidance and capture memorable moments. I am proud of the recognition that my work has received over the years

The passion that I pour into anything I choose to do, and my desire to see things through to the end is what I feel sets me apart from everyone else. I understand fully how much hard work it takes to build a successful company or simply accomplish a major goal, so I do my best to guide as many people as I can. Teamwork makes the dream work for sure, and I am the person that everyone wants on their team.

Currently, my focus is solely on the continuance of growing my businesses and growing more relationships with new and current clients.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
People have no idea (or they are starting to learn) that I am a gamer. I love playing video games during my downtime.

I have a serious food texture issue. Like I will literally vomit from the mere thought of eating anything that is gooey (marshmallows) or rubbery (mushrooms). I am a collector of vintage/retro trinkets (typewriters, record players, etc.) and I am terrified of cats!!!

She is my husband’s bestfriend and I consider her my big sister. This article proves why I always say to my husband that she is one of the few ppl I look up to and
who I am inspired by. She’s so down to earth and caring and loving. Her accomplishments are amazing and I love that she loves to help out and pour into other women and men. Super proud and she isn’t finished yet.
