Today we’d like to introduce you to LaSheba Boyd.
Hi LaSheba, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business during the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas! I love interior design, but I have a special place in my heart for Christmas. I listened to so many people voice how much they love the holidays, but they hated the hassle of Christmas decorations. I saw a need to make coming together their only concern. I personally have 5 Christmas trees in my home and I’m working on the 6th!
When my family and friends would visit, they would always compliment them all detail by detail, and that ultimately led to asking if I would decorate for them. Once their family and friends visited their home, they of course saw the center of the room, “The Tree” which led to more people asking if I would consider decorating theirs as well. A genuine love and joy for my favorite thing to do led to more joy by being able to do the same for other people.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road by any means however the lessons that have blossomed from the rough patches have been the catalyst to keep me moving forward. Like with any up-and-coming business you face the common challenge of not being known. In addition to not having a full client base, people had to learn that “decking the halls” was not limited to just the Christmas holiday season; curating your space should be done year round
Being motivated was another obstacle for me along the way. During the time when things were just beginning to get busy for me, my father passed away of COVID and I had 2 choices: to either grieve and shut down or grieve and use my passion to continue pushing me in purpose. I chose to do what my father would have wanted me to do, which was to continue to do what brings my heart joy. While the road of my journey has not always been an easy one it has most definitely been one full of blessings, learned lessons, and inspiring others to live a life that makes them happy along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The holiday season is by far my favorite time of year! Deck the Halls is rightfully known for Christmas trees and holiday decor. However, the term Deck the halls means to decorate. So, from Christmas trees and holiday home decor to bedrooms and man caves, we deck it all, all year! Make you and your home a reason to celebrate, and let us help!
I have been told that I have great attention to detail. I have a passion for “Wow” my clients and making a lasting impression.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
First and foremost, I pray for guidance and ask God to surround me with people who have pure intentions and good motives. I have also been very blessed to have friends as entrepreneurs, who have been able to share their experiences of highs and lows. I have always been an extroverted person who enjoys meeting and networking with people. The most impactful advice that I could share; is to be open. Be willing to make mistakes and learn from them.
On my tough days, I am reminded of a quote that pushes me to keep going ” The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision. – Helen Keller.
