Daily Inspiration: Meet Lacey Hennessey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacey Hennessey.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m a “yes” person. Early in my career, I didn’t turn any projects down that came my way, even if I felt like I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I would say yes then do the research.

There are so many Free tools via the internet like YouTube, a quick Google search, social media, etc., with tutorials and explanations that we all have a level playing field.

So, I would and will bet on myself every time. So, with many new projects, I can feel like a fish out of water, but I love learning a new skill or walking away from each job with a lesson learned. If you aren’t being challenged you aren’t growing.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
If you love happy, colorful art that’s easy to understand, then my work is for you. I am a traveling muralist, currently based out of my home studio in Greenville, South Carolina. My body of work is a reflection of my personality (or so I’d like to think!) – Fun, bright, bold, and clever. I thrive when my clients provide a design direction, for example, a list of inclusions, and then I work to creatively create a piece that brings them all together. The majority of my work is commission based, so with every project I complete, whether it be a smaller commission or grand in-scale mural, the design is unique and custom to the client. At the same time, easily identifiable as my own. Often in my work, you’ll find contrasting outlines throughout the painting that provides a crisp and clean look to the image.

My work is playful, yet deliberate, and for the masses. I have a passion for travel and at one point, my art was only a hobby. Everywhere I visited I would be in search of street art and muraled buildings. I find public art wildly important. It’s for everyone. Free to the public, and at any income level, of any ethnicity, age, or background, we are all able to take in these murals and view them as our own. My work is very much split 50/50 for work commercially and residentially. I’m most proud that my brand has grown from hobby to side hustle, to a full-time successful art and design brand in a few, short years. I love what I do and I enjoy promoting and uplifting every community I leave my mark on.

Early in my path to entrepreneurship, and by way of referrals, I learned that people would say “see if Lacey does it”. And so a brand was born. I am a “yes” person, always taking on new challenges and because of that, my body of work continues to grow with every new opportunity. I have shipped commissioned artwork to over 40 states in the US, as well as internationally, and have completed more than 120 murals in the last 2.5 years. My work is generational. It’s relatable, joyful, and brightens up a space. It’s created to last, both in material and in concept. For any new project, big or small, your need or another’s, I hope you’ll stop and say, “see if Lacey does it

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Bet on yourself. I am one of the lucky ones. My business continued to thrive during the pandemic. I did pivot, offering new products like graduation yard signs and targeting more residential home murals, but what I took away is that if you are able to market yourself, no matter your trade, you can be successful in any environment. My hustle didn’t stop, I accelerated and marketed my skills to clients that could benefit from my services.
