Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenneth K.J. Bradley Jr Dr. Thaddeus Jones Jr.
Kenneth & Dr. Jones, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
K.J.: Once I retired from the military in 2018, I decided to get back into videography and cinema production. After going through a few internships, I linked up with Thaddeus at Fanatik productions and we’ve been connected ever since.
Thad: I started out in middle school making VHS movies with my gifted and talented classes. From there I became a photographer’s assistant and did some traveling sports photography and took a few classes in college.
That was it for a while I went to college and took a completely different path because I was influenced by people that filmmaking wasn’t something I could do as a practical career. So, nothing else really ever stuck. It also made me miserable. I eventually dropped out of college for ten years before returning and trying to chase this dream. Once I did, I started trying to make short films as soon as I could get my hands on the equipment to shoot and edit. Back then I didn’t own anything not even a camera so it was hard getting people to take me seriously. It was a lot of internal work to keep going.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
K.J.: Absolutely there were a lot of struggles. Coupled with my disabilities and trying to relearn the craft it was an uphill battle. I spent many days questioning if this was something that I could do. Creatively and physically.
Thaddeus: Lots of struggles. tangible struggles like equipment but also a mindset struggle and not really having a support system all of that makes achieving anything much harder. By this time in my life, I had two kids too so you can add child support and failed relationships and businesses too. It’s hard to do things without a team. I have had some folks come along but never a solid consistent team. we all seem to go our own way and sometimes that’s good, other times it is really frustrating.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
K.j.: My background is in comedy and drama. My most recent award was the 2020 T.V. producer of the year at the EZWay golden Gala awards. It was my first professional award and validation that I made the right choice.
Thaddeus: I specialize in horror movies but that’s a wide genre. I love to leave people talking about my films. Rather it’s something deep like the motivation of the characters or something that relates to them I just want them asking questions and having a dialogue after they have seen it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
K.J.: I believe luck is the product of preparation and meeting the opportunity so in that respect I’m a huge believer in the individual making their own luck. I just try to do the work, get better at the craft every day and stay ready for when opportunities present themselves.
Thaddeus: I’m not sure about luck, but divine intervention is real. I wouldn’t be here without that. Maybe I’m just here to help someone else see that they don’t have to wait as long as I did to try to become the person you want to be. I wasted so much time trying to be what others wanted me to be that I feel I missed out on the opportunity to be the best me I could have become. So now I’m just blessed to have a shot at being around the business I love and to maybe be lucky enough to find success.
