Daily Inspiration: Meet Jerri Hanna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerri Hanna.

Jerri Hanna

Hi Jerri, We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Legend of Geraldine is based on my love for fashion and design, inspired by my Gram, Geraldine. I (Jerri) am a self-made milliner with mentors like Tom Hirt, known for his designs on the film Tombstone. As a painter in college, my passion for creating was first awakened. Later on, while working on set for The Hunger Games as a hair stylist, my love for design was sparked again; I was captivated by the creative genius of the wardrobe department during production. When art and fashion crossed paths in my life, a new journey took flight and blazed a new trail. The lost art of “The Hat,” which portrayed culture and nobility, mirroring one’s life through the ages, has become my new medium. I aim to inspire creative expression through each handcrafted design.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have always thrived on learning new trades or a new language, just learning in general. Researching, multiple trial and error, and patience were mine for this newly developed craft. The hat-making journey has been one of the most fun ventures of my career, and there is nothing more fulfilling than having someone appreciate your art. Anytime you start down a new path, it can be scary, and self-doubt can start to whisper to your subconscious, but if it were easy, everyone would do it. Success in life is all about the risks you take as well as the risks you don’t take. Our struggles shape us and lead us to our highest accomplishments.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, I am always looking for inspiration. It may come from any given moment or meeting. Nature is always a muse, as are people, lifestyle, and all areas of art. My eye for design, pairing colors and patterns and being fearless in choosing designs outside the norm.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
Research is key. Hone your craft, don’t be afraid to fail. To fail is to learn. Starting a new business can be overwhelming, so take it one step at a time. Stay true to what lights you up, and follow your heart.
