Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalin Hill.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
It all started when I was 11 years old. I received my first phone as a present, the Apple iPhone XR. That phone helped me become a photographer because it was my first camera. One day, in early August, my family and I took a trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. While in Hilton Head, I photographed my mom on the beach. Some of the photos were posted on social media. Shortly after that, I started Jphotos. For some time, all of my photos were taken on an iPhone. As I grew in my photography career, capturing landscape photos with my phone, I received my first camera, the Canon Rebel T100. This camera took me a long way in photography, leading to my first paid photoshoot. A few months after my first photoshoot, I started making a website and named my photography business Jphotos. On December 17, 2020, I got an iPhone 12 Pro. This was a game changer for me because of the better lenses in the Apple pro lineup of iPhones. Using the 12 Pro, I could confidently do photoshoots and landscape photography. In 2021 I shot my first wedding. 2022 was a more significant year for me because I became more visible on social media. I did a major redesign of my website and made it look like what it looks like today. I got a camera upgrade, a Canon EOS R. I also upgraded my phone alongside my camera.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It has been a journey with few obstacles, thanks to a very supportive family and people willing to give me a chance to take their photos. However, as a novice photographer, learning and understanding how to use various types of software and hardware has been one of my biggest challenges. This includes learning and understanding how to work with Adobe Photoshop and my camera to produce the highest-quality images possible. Another challenge I’ve faced when it comes to photography is growing and maintaining a social media presence. Maintaining a social media presence is a lot of work, from creating and posting content to recording and editing videos for YouTube or shooting and editing for Instagram. Additionally, you need people who believe in you and your talents to create content for your social media platforms. This is more challenging when you’re young.

I am a 14-year-old photographer specializing in portraits, but I also offer weddings and other events as a part of my services. The growth of my photography business makes me most proud of what I have accomplished.
