Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Houser.
Hi Eric, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How did I get started? Back in 2015, I was asked to speak at an event during CIAA weekend in Charlotte NC. There was a photographer there who was awesome.
I stuck close to her most of the day with a growing interest in the craft. I began asking about the features and settings of her camera.
The event promoter Niya encouraged me to begin a business and call it Free Talk Media. She explain how I loved public speaking and learning the camera. “Put them together and make something special Houser,” she said.
Needless to say within a month I had my camera and began my journey.
Since that time I’ve been promoting and pushing my company very hard.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a struggle at times. There are many photographers in the business and many have exceptional talent.
When you live in a smaller city the favorites are chosen and you are just a small fish in a shark tank.
I’ve fought to make progress in being mentioned among the greats or the selected.
Not only has the competition been stiff I’ve also had setbacks where things I needed weren’t attainable during the time of need. However, the rocky road is making me resilient.
One thing that the process has taught me is what’s for you is for you.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer that will “shoot” anything. I see art in everything. From the duck at the pond to a person pushing a shopping cart on a hot day. Everything is photography in my opinion. It’s just finding the market for your particular work.
What am I known for … hmm that’s a great question. If I had to say I’d say great quality work for reasonable pricing. I see photography as a privilege before I see it as a business.
It’s a privilege to work with people and allow your talent to meet their skill set and create a masterpiece to create confidence and joy in the customer.
I’m thankful for the contacts and impacts that have encouraged me throughout the journey. I am thankful that God gave me a talent and an eye to do things. I trust him as he teaches me what to do.
What sets me apart from others? My customers are first. I have built my brand around quality, convenience, and building confidence. I believe investments aren’t only financial returns but what you plant in people yields fruit too. You reap what you sow.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
In the next 5-10 years photography will expand beyond the human mind. In the way that technology has evolved the sky is the limit.
Camera phones have been competitive with photography because of the auto settings on camera phones. It has also helped satisfy instant gratification.
However, the megapixel and photography tricks will always keep the photographer relevant.
I’d love to have a huge studio in Charlotte NC that caters to all who desire photography. Maybe even a school or small university for those who desire to learn more.
