Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Reardon.
Hi Christine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Homesick Housewares three years ago after working in the interior design industry. My love for interiors and sustainable design lead me down a path of treasure hunting. Everyone deserves a special, one-of-a-kind space, no matter the budget. I travel far and wide to hunt down unique housewares that are sure to be the conversation pieces in any home.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are really two major challenges to daily business for Homesick Housewares. One challenge is the constant sprint to evolve the brand and to stay ahead of the ever-changing design trends. The second headache is the notoriously unpredictable Charleston weather. The majority of my sales come from weekly outdoor local markets. There is an amazingly supportive community of small businesses in Charleston and we all grieve together when the weather cancels an event we’re counting on.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Homesick Housewares is known in Charleston for having a highly curated selection of vintage goods. My amazing customer base can always count on me for having those rare, hard-to-find, pieces. I love giving customers a sense of how the items could fit in their own homes by styling vignettes on my Instagram page. Similarly, I have created a market display that I hope brings inspiration and maybe even a warm comforting feeling of home.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Listen, sustainability is sexy and definitely a path into the future. Who doesn’t want to help save Mother Earth by shopping secondhand?
