Daily Inspiration: Meet Carolina Snowflakes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina Snowflakes.

Hello Carolina Snowflakes, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! We’re the Carolina Snowflakes. Like so many others, we found ourselves at home a great deal more beginning in 2020 and it was during this “downtime” that we decided to start podcasting. It was an idea that we had toyed with for years, but never had the time to pursue until suddenly we had nothing but time on our hands. With limited resources and no idea what to expect, we began recording in August 2020. Since then, we have released, and continue to release weekly episodes, plus a handful of bonus tracks. Little did we know that people would find our brand of political humor funny and our topics engaging, but they did! The Carolina Snowflakes Podcast has given us a way to stay connected during times when sharing space with others has been impossible. The podcast continues to grow week by week as listeners from the Carolinas, as well as from around the world, tune in. Our topics vary, but we decided early on that no matter what, we would always talk about the things that we personally find interesting and that’s what we continue to do.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If anything was a struggle for us Snowflakes it would be the technical side of podcasting. The content was the easy part. We knew what we wanted to talk about, but there’s a slight learning curve when it comes to the hardware and software involved in recording, producing, and editing a show. Needless to say, there were many hours between the two of us spent reading and learning about the various technical components of creating a podcast.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The Carolina Snowflakes Podcast provides thought-provoking and entertaining audio content for our listeners… We approach all topics through the lens of political progressiveness and throw in a whole heap of humor as we, and many of our listeners, live in deeply conservative areas. We believe that politics can be funny and we have no qualms with poking fun at ourselves just as much as we poke at those around us. Being that we’re both born and raised in the Carolinas–Jason from South Carolina and Amanda from North Carolina–we understand what it’s like to be southern Americans and we also understand what it’s like to be living blue in a sea of red. Sometimes it’s downright hilarious and that’s what our show is all about!

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Before our launch, we agreed that we would always talk about topics that we find personally interesting. We also agreed that if we couldn’t have fun in the process then we wouldn’t do it. So far, we’ve stuck by these “rules” and we continue to see success. Our listenership continues to grow week over week and we’re still thoroughly enjoying what we do. Liking what we do is what matters more than anything else. As a result, others have come to like what we do too.
