Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Grant.
Hi Adrian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my journey with a Culinary Arts Degree from TTC. From there, I worked at Charleston Place Hotel and Circa 1886. At both of these places, I sat under the tutelage of some great chefs, and they helped me hone my culinary skills and passion. After taking a small break from the business, I returned to the industry and started my meal prep and delivery service. From there, I delved back into catering and was the featured chef for several events in the Charleston area. One of my favorite events was Tasting Notes. I brought Chamber Music, Wine, and Fine Dining that night. I recently became the owner of Charleston Pops Desserts and Catering Food Truck. I am also an ambassador for the Pass the Peaz family cooking app. Here, you can download family favorite recipes and see stories of how family dishes came to be. It has been a rollercoaster, but on the same ride, food.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This industry is driven by hunger; you can do well if you can meet that need. It has not and is not always easy. COVID-19 was a time of uncertainty and panic for many of us, but we managed to switch gears and meet the needs of so many who were shut in. Meal Prep and Delivery took off in that season and is holding well. My main struggles have been staying ahead of the curve. It’s not a struggle, but it’s a lot of work. Every little thing influences our society, and we love to try new things. So I have to keep the gears turning and my eyes open for what’s next and how I will engage it and make it fit for us.
Thanks for sharing that. Please tell us more about your work.
This is a good one. I had to pick artists and creatives because they fit my personality and life, influencing my professional interactions. Not only am I a chef, but I am also the music director at my local church, an avid gardener, and a people lover. I’m known for my joy. I love all the creative ways I engage my world and the people around me, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. Food is always a way to make someone happy. Music is dynamic and life-giving, and gardening is life from the earth. I honestly never feel like I’m working. I’m living and enjoying every moment of it. What sets me apart from others is me. No matter who you are, you get all of me. People can feel the love in my cooking, taste the joy in every spice, and possibly hear the songs I’m singing while cooking their food. And when I show up, there will be smiles and laughter. Lol. I’m a lot, but it’s a good thing.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Yes and No. Lol. There is so much, but I need a book, and this is an article. lol
