Conversations with Tori Buck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tori Buck.

Tori Buck

Hi Tori, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.

Hello, my name is Tori, and I am a professional wedding photographer. I began my photography journey at a young age, becoming proficient in darkroom production by middle school and receiving my first camera at the age of five. Initially, I focused on landscape photography while aspiring to capture the beauty of weddings. I understood that before delving into the art of narrating love stories through images, I needed to refine my style and skills. To achieve this, I apprenticed under experienced wedding photographers, participated in styled shoots, and developed a diverse portfolio. When I felt confident in my abilities to handle the responsibility that comes with capturing such significant moments, I decided to establish my own wedding photography business. Let me assure you, being a wedding photographer is not just a job, it is a true responsibility.
I started my own wedding photography business and worked tirelessly to promote my brand. I reached out to other vendors, attended meetings, and marketed my services. Capturing memories from your special day is my passion, and I take pride in using my skills to create lasting images. Wedding photography is not for the faint of heart – it requires hard work, long hours, and a strong work ethic. But the end result is worth it, as I get to preserve your best day for years to come.
I was filled with determination and had a strong support system of friends who doubted my ability to start my own business. So, I decided to enroll in design school to learn everything I needed to know about running a business, from branding to websites and editing software. Just before graduating at the top of my class with honors, I also enrolled in business school. And now, here I am, 22 years later, still passionate about what I do and grateful to have turned my passion into my profession.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the early days of my career, my children were in school. Balancing their education, my own learning, and building a brand while juggling cheerleading and other activities was quite a challenge. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth every challenge, I wouldn’t change anything because I learned so much, not just about business, but about myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding, engagement, elopement, and proposal photography, as well as content creation services. I am incredibly proud of our fantastic team, some of whom have been with us for as long as 7 years since we first brought them on board. Together, we have won over 38 awards and have been featured in publications nearly 40 times. Teamwork truly makes the dream work! We also have the privilege of collaborating with some amazing vendors.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?

The latest trend in the wedding industry is cutting costs on photography. From my personal experience and observations, it seems like venues are charging exorbitant prices, making it difficult for couples to have everything they want for their special day. I’ve noticed many brides having to make compromises, which is concerning. I’m a bit nervous about the direction the wedding industry is heading and how it will impact not only us, but other wedding vendors as well.
