Conversations with ‘Phantom’ Phil Warder

Today we’d like to introduce you to ‘Phantom’ Phil Warder.

Hi ‘Phantom’ Phil, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have two post-secondary diplomas. One is in radio + television broadcasting, while the other is in Artist Management. I gained a career in neither field. However, at both institutions, I gained the knowledge and skillset to start and maintain a podcast.

In 2016, my brother started a True Crime podcast called ‘The Trail Went Cold’ and after bearing witness to his success with the show, I figured I could try and do the same. In late 2019 I decided I wanted to start up a paranormal/spiritual podcast that turned into my show ‘Unexplained Inc.’ that debuted in March 2020.

Yes…that March 2020, when most of the world seemingly shut down! I recorded the first two episodes a few days before that happened at a badly managed commercial office space (surprise, surprise…it went out of business!). The show was supposed to debut on the first day of spring but I delayed it one week and posted a new show weekly until April 2022.

On the verge of suffering burnout and wanting to shake things up, I went on a hiatus for most of spring and summer of 2022. I re-aired classic episodes during that time and on September 23, 2022 switched to a 12-episode seasonal format.

The show’s moniker changed from ‘Open for business and ready to believe you’ to ‘Where the unknown connects with the empowered’. This show will continue to intertwine the unexplained and the spiritual while I transition from the 9-5 workforce to a career in the service of spiritual healing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
As previously mentioned, the show started right around the time of lockdown #1 in North America. Trying to manage the chaos of day to day life at that time as well as wondering if anyone would even care about what I was doing. Luckily I silenced those doubts and soldiered on.

The biggest challenges are mostly being a one-person show. Even though I’ve had some help from friends and family, I am responsible for the consistent hosting, editing, researching, booking, marketing and producing duties. When certain shows don’t connect or guests bail at almost the last minute it can become challenging real quick. But I embrace challenges because that’s what makes us all grow.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am in a fascinating transition. While I am an employee I will eventually be starting my own spiritual healing practice. I am doing this to become one of service for myself, others around me as well as the collective.

I am certified in Level II Usui Reiki while planning on obtaining my Masters in 2023. I am also certified in the modalities of Core Shamanism. I also plan on taking an online spiritual hypnotherapy course to add to my healing toolkit as well this upcoming year.

The thing I am the most proud of is to connect to some of these practitioners on the show and learn from others. I love adapting and growing during troubled times and trying to help others find their own way out there.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Once again…not let the pandemic get in the way of launching the show. I was also deemed an essential worker at my day job and, luckily never stopped working. The most important lessons I learned were to be kind and patient in times of crisis and to not let your flame die out in the face of darkness.
