Conversations with Nykia Breon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nykia Breon.

Hi Nykia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry in all facets since I was a teenager. However, makeup artistry kind of came to me full circle and I always credit my college suite-mate Victoria for opening the door for me to so much more than just eyeliner and lip-gloss. I started KKB Faces in college doing makeup on myself and my friends, quickly building my clientele around campus. My journey in the industry was definitely a wave of figuring out if I wanted to be a YouTuber, beauty editor, beauty influencer, salesperson. I tried it all, but the brushes never let me down.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not. I can definitely say I had a momentum in college, but I always had to put in the work (as we all have to). Once I graduated, real-life started to welcome itself and it felt like every time I felt steady in my business another challenge was in front of me. The biggest challenge I faced was being diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer at the start of the pandemic in 2020. I did not know what was ahead of me and honestly, that was the only time ever that I questioned picking up my brushes again. Thankfully that doubtful spirit only lasted about two weeks before I gathered myself. Every challenge big or small helped shaped me as a person and I can say my passion for what I do never wavered no matter how many times I had to pause or start over.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
KKB Faces creates soft, clean glam for radiant women who are ready to elevate their beauty. I love when clients leave my chair feeling like a better version of themselves, feeling confident and simply enhanced. I am most proud of my drive to keep going because I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. I consider myself a professional makeup artist, however, I’m just getting started.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as being free, having the luxury of freedom and comfort. Success to me looks like being able to do what I love all the time and not only changing my life but those around me too.
