Conversations with Marianne Cowell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marianne Cowell.

Marianne Cowell

Hi Marianne, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Mayday was created with the understanding that solving the issue of gun violence in schools won’t happen overnight. However, the urgency of the matter demanded a real-time response. We recognized a legitimate gap in the forced entry protection space and we wanted to find a solution that was not only impactful but would prioritize psychological safety as well. The LifeShield+™ – a bullet resistant, Level 2 and Level 3 UL certified kevlar panel that protects entryways, doors, and windows from active shooters, think of it as a bullet proof vest for your building – fills that gap. At Mayday we want to create secure spaces that don’t contribute to feelings of impending doom or anxiety. The LifeShield+™ combines cutting-edge technology with a commitment to striking a balance between safety and normalcy. Unlike traditional security measures that can make schools feel like fortresses, the LifeShield+™ blends seamlessly into a building’s aesthetic. It operates discreetly, much like any other curtain or blind, until the moment it’s needed. There is a purity to this solution; it isn’t about politics or debates; it is simply about combating gun violence and fostering a safer, more secure school community that prioritizes emotional well-being, and growth, in an environment where students and faculty have the ability to thrive.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest struggle has been making people aware of the LifeShield+™ and its capabilities. It is truly the latest innovation in forced entry protection, and introducing a new product can be challenging. But once we are able to connect and explain the benefits of the LifeShield+, we are always met with the same responses, “I had no idea that a product like this even existed,” and “It actually works, it does what it says it does, it stops bullets!” It is so fulfilling when we meet with people and they match our energy and passion for the LifeShield+™ and this new level of security it brings to the school safety space. Every conversation is a step towards safer, more secure school communities.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
I always try to lead with love, and the thing I love most is being a mom. It is what inspires me and gives me hope for the future. My kids are my greatest joy; they drive me to do better and be better. Knowing that they are listening to what I say and watching what I do sets the tone for how I try to live my life. I let my passion and sense of community lead me. That is the heart of Mayday Security Solutions and the driving force behind our mission to create safe spaces where students and staff can focus on learning without unnecessary fear or disruption. That, coupled with my 20+ years of experience in marketing, public relations, and managing entrepreneurial growth, has primed us to be in a position to unlock the true growth potential of the company and the LifeShield+™ .

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Mayday Security Solutions is a group effort; our team drives and inspires each other daily. That said, we have connected with so many wonderful people throughout this journey. Community leaders, superintendents, teachers, students, parents – the support and advocacy we receive from them is a significant part of what keeps propelling us forward and allows us to amplify our message as they amplify their voices. We would not be where we are today without the support of communities nationwide.
