Today we’d like to introduce you to Libby Levin.
Hi Libby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you for taking the time to interview me. I am a photographer from Jacksonville, FL who attended Wofford College in Spartanburg, SC. While in school, I decided to further pursue my passion of photography which has lead me to where I am today. I’ve always been good with a camera and I’ve been taking photos for as long as I can remember.
My mother loves photography, so growing up I had many photos taken of me and was always encouraged to take them myself as well. I’ve always been extremely artsy, from knitting to painting, colors and composition have always been a passion.
I am completely self-taught and have now been hired to document various facets of life from senior portraits, pet portraits, Summer Camp photography, and weddings, and the list continues to grow.
I capture the memory as it is, the moment as it comes, and the feelings with the push of a button.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I believe that learning is never linear.
Everyone faces some challenges along their own path to achieving a new hobby. Photography for me is ever-changing and since I learned by trial and error, many of my earlier pieces do not compare to my latest photos.
Equipment and experience have made the most difference in my photography; both of which take time to achieve.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’ve taken many photos that don’t fall into specific categories.
I absolutely love senior portraits because of the excitement that comes from the clients. I adore pet portraits because of the energy and happiness they exude. I don’t believe I could pick a “favorite” genre of photography because I believe all photos bring different energies into view.
I believe that photography should be accessible to all. I don’t believe that it is a luxury and only people who can afford professional photos are able to preserve the memories they have.
I have set prices, but if a client were unable to afford said prices, I like to work with them on pricing. Since I do have a day job and photography is my passion, I don’t rely on my income from my sessions and can be more flexible than other photographers.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Shout out to Finch App. It’s an app where it helps you journal and track your day while raising a finch. It’s completely free and highly recommend.
Feel free to not include it, but it is a great app.
Pricing:
- My prices range anywhere from $50 to $150+ depending on the situation.
