Hi Jaray, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My real name is Jaray but I go by the hip-hop stage name of RayWil. I 1st started making music at the age of 13 years old but didn’t take my craft serious until the age of 19. My father side consists of musicians with different talents, so growing up I was curious as to what my talent was and later on in life figured out it was rapping. As to when I 1st started off, I didn’t have as much support as I do now. I’d always call myself the underdog. Fast forward to years later I’ve had two distribution deals, several independent label offers but currently running my own independent label called “Forever Royalty Entertainment” with my older cousin. I use to maybe get 500-1000 views on every song I drop but now as I grow as an artist and as a businessman, I learned how to network and promote myself getting my music to 100k streams and more. I believe I am the true definition of never give up on your dreams, the sky is the limit, and never let anybody tell you what you can’t be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a rocky journey for me. Mostly because trying to gain new fans and getting industry people to listen to your music is very frustrating. Nobody believes in you until you gain the spotlight. Once you gain just a little spotlight that’s when it becomes smooth for new and upcoming artist.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an independent hip-hop artist. I specialize in creating good music that my fans want to hear. They always tell me “RayWil never misses!”. I’m most proud of me not being where I were years ago from where I started. I use to get discouraged so I had months where I didn’t make music for a long time but I had to realize that I was making music for me and my creative sound that I love to hear. I believe my ability to legit make any genre of music sets me apart from all of the other artist out there.
