Conversations with Faith Godbold

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Godbold.

Faith Godbold

Hi Faith, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Faith Godbold, and I am an educator and entrepreneur. God first gave me A Touch of Faith in the ’90s while I was creating invitations and flyers for customers who were getting married or graduating from school. Years later, in 2014, I learned how to make wreaths after a good friend suggested I try it. Little did I know that this would be the start of something great. After completing my first wreath just for me and showing family, friends, and colleagues what I learned how to do, custom orders started to come. So, for about six months, I began creating and selling wreaths, but I stopped soon after because I became sick with fibroids.

In 2016, I had surgery, and as I started on the road to recovery, I began feeling better than I had in years. During that time, one of my colleagues emailed me about needing a wreath for his classroom door. It had been so long since I made a wreath that I didn’t know if I could still create them. Nevertheless, I took his custom order on faith and made a wreath that reflected his love of wearing bow ties. 2016 continued to be a great year because during that summer, the love of my life finally found me, and this was also the year that I was promoted from classroom teacher to district technology specialist. Because the new school year was about to begin, I wanted to create something beautiful for my door. By this time, I started learning new techniques, and as I think back now, making this wreath was the start of what would eventually become my return to wreath-making.

The following year, in 2017, my aunt asked me to make her a fall wreath. At this point, it had been over a year since I had created one, and I didn’t have the time because of work. Plus, I only had a few materials. You see, at that point, I only shopped at Hobby Lobby and was only into the deco mesh. At this point, the ribbon wasn’t really on my radar. Even though I stalled on making this wreath for her, I wanted to create a few wreaths for Christmas time, and that’s exactly what I did. For some reason, I strongly desired to create a wreath for my home. As I made my snowman wreath, I saw God transform and elevate my gift! Creating this was a dream come true because it was the kind of wreath I saw others create, not me. I knew God had his hand in this even more when I made an angel wreath for my mom. As I crafted her wreath, I felt the Holy Spirit leading and guiding me throughout, telling me where to place things. Then, I knew this was more than just creating beautiful wreaths. God was using me to create décor to decorate, inspire, and bless those who own them. In December 2017, I made the Santa wreath pictured here as a Christmas gift for my boss—her response to seeing my wreath changed this from a hobby to a business. She told me that my wreath was better than others she had paid a lot of money for! Something about how she complimented me on my work planted a seed inside of me.

In January 2018, God placed a desire in my heart to share A Touch of Faith on Facebook, so we began as a buying and selling group comprised of family, friends, colleagues, and church members. The encouragement of those close to me helped me launch my business, and in June 2018, my Facebook business page was born. Shortly after that, I found my website, www.ATOFaith.com. Since 2018, I’ve participated in several events, including the Sweet Potato Festival in Darlington, SC, and the SC Jazz Festival in my hometown of Cheraw, SC. In February 2019, I opened A Touch of Faith Shop on the global marketplace Etsy (www.ATouchOfFaithShop.com). In addition to wreaths, I create floral swags and centerpieces, angel tree toppers, ribbon trees, T-shirts, bows, and so much more!

Last year, I expanded my business to include beauty products, and I am now an independent stylist for Color Street. I’ve always loved makeup, and now I offer products to make your nails, lips, hands, and eyes more beautiful. In addition, I currently teach and train other crafters and business owners through online classes each week. It’s incredible how God has allowed my journey as a certified educator to impact my work in my business. Today, A Touch of Faith consists of over 3000 followers, VIP customers, wreath makers, entrepreneurs, colleagues, church members, friends, and my family, all in various cities, states, and countries who support us. I am also thankful for the excellent coaches I’ve had the opportunity to connect with. My journey shows how God can give you something that you never dreamed of or imagined. That’s why A Touch of Faith is built on Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the element of things not seen.” My business turns hope into reality with the handmade products I create and through my inspirational messages of encouragement.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been some challenges along the way. Sometimes, business could be faster. Whenever this happens, I reflect and use this time to evaluate what has worked in the past and what I can do differently. This is also an excellent time for me as a maker to create items I need for the holidays when things get hectic. That leads me to my next challenge – keeping up during the busy season. After Halloween, my customers start placing orders for their Christmas décor. This means that sometimes I may have 10-15 new orders daily. Even though this is a wonderful blessing from God, I must make sure I balance my business and make time for self-care and family time. In addition, I work full-time as an educator for my district, so balance is a definite must for me to stay on top of everything.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a maker, I love creating beautiful décor that anyone can use to decorate their home and the spaces they love most. I make handmade wreaths, bows, centerpieces, wall swags, and door hangers, to name a few. I also sell wreath supplies and beauty products and love teaching others how to begin their own businesses. I would say that my specialty is wreaths because that’s what started my business. However, I am also known for my faith and inspiration. I am most proud of the fact that God gave me this business. I never desired or asked Him for it. So, each day, I put my trust in Him. He is my boss and has helped me every step of the way. I am proud to use my knowledge and journey to teach other makers and entrepreneurs. I believe my faith sets me apart from others. I genuinely believe that the Holy Spirit guides everything I make and do. This is evident in the beautiful products I create and the relationships I build with everyone I come into contact with.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Because I’m from a small town, I love the size of Florence. It’s not too big, but it’s just right for me. The mall and movie theaters are what I remember visiting the most as a child. There’s a wide variety of shopping, dining, and recreation options, and I love all of the additions to the downtown revitalization. I can’t think of anything I like least about it.
