Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Taylor.
Hi Desiree, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started baking as a stress reliever I would bring cakes to work to give to my fellow coworkers just to bring some light into their day because work had become such a stressful environment. It also helped me keep connected to my mom who is deceased but she always loved sweets and started baking pound cakes for our family functions. A pound cake reminds me of her…simple eloquent and enjoyable. She had such connections with people and that is what keeps me going
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the obstacles I had was waiting on the right time to present my cakes and the right avenue to sell them fortunately an opening for the night market became available and here we are. Fergie’s Favorites
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Registered Nurse and have been a nurse since 1990. I currently work at the Medical University of South Carolina in a neurology unit. I love people nurturing has always been something that I love to do. I love helping people understand how they can get through a certain event in their life. I realize that in life you don’t always need to know the answers but just being present helps tremendously. I’m most proud of myself for taking the leap of faith with my lovely daughter Shelby who is herself a force to be reckoned with for being by my side every step of the way. She is a boss. I think what sets me apart is that I thoroughly enjoy what I’m doing and sharing myself with people. I always have time for my customers
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I’m taking this journey step by step. I think it’s important to learn and move at a good pace. My hope is to build up my online orders and have a mobile unit.
