Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Holmquist.
Hi Christina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Planning parties and celebrating has always been something I have really enjoyed. Putting together themes, colors and florals was fun and a nice break from my career as a Registered Nurse. Friends, family, and co-workers started reaching out for help with their own gatherings.
Once the pandemic hit, I was temporarily furloughed from the surgery center I currently work and started thinking. Still wanting to stay busy and brighten people’s days in the gloom of the situation C.Holmquist Design was born. I started offering porch drop-off florals around town and people really took to wanting beautiful arrangements to brighten up quarantine.
After returning to work as a nurse, I continued to offer porch deliveries and virtual flowers people could send with just a click! I then became pregnant with my son Banks Howard Holmquist and decided to take a small break from C.Holmquist Design to spend as much time with him as possible.
A few months ago I decided that the time felt right and with a solid family schedule I could start offering beautiful florals again! With a few shares and follows from some amazing friends on social media, I’ve been able to really put my passion to work.
I’m enjoying new challenges, teaching classes, and getting outside my comfort zone! I really believe that celebrating is the best pastime and life in full bloom is worth chasing!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Some of my biggest struggles have been believing my work is good enough for others.
My friends and family have really supported me and helped me realize others will appreciate my talents and passion as well. Developing a business with no experience (nursing degree over here haha) has also been a learning curve.
I’ve enjoyed really figuring up how to grow and expand to different clients and retail customers.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I am a floral designer based in Charleston, SC, I specialize in delivering unique arrangements for all of life’s celebrations and milestones and providing custom florals for small events.
I have also recently started offering “Make your Own Bouquet” Bars and “Pick A Rose” Buckets provided at corporate events, employee appreciations, and gatherings. Soon I will be teaching a “Make Your Own Arrangement” Class at Etu Home of Charleston using one of their amazing French Mason Jar vessels.
I love working with buyers to find and create exactly what they are looking for and really love collaborating. I specialize in small events, baby showers, bridal showers, and intimate parties. I believe florals and decor can always elevate an event and enjoy creating a unique experience.
We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking?
I wouldn’t say I am a huge risk taker but I have gotten out of my comfort zone putting myself and my business out there. Selling myself and my talent is a risk I decided to take and currently haven’t been disappointed.
I’m hoping to get more comfortable taking risks with events and jobs given to me in the future.
