Conversations with Chad Fish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Fish.

Hi Chad, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I picked up my first film at a garage sale my neighbor was having as a small kid in the late 80s.

When I was in 7th grade, I met a retired photographer neighbor after his dog started to follow me home from school. I began visiting Mitch when I could and he became like a grandfather to me. Mitch taught me to love photography and to see the world beautifully.

Ever since then, I have worked to learn and grow in my skill set and love for the art.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think every photographer goes through highs and lows. Finding a balance between my full-time job in law enforcement and my desire to always take pictures is a struggle!

It used to take sophisticated camera equipment to get great images, now you can even get great shots with the phone in your hand. It’s easy to compare your images to all the images out there and to feel discouraged or overwhelmed. I’ve learned that I have to focus on improving myself, looking for the opportunities that the world provides, and bringing joy to those that see my images.

Every time I have a portrait session and the clients are thrilled with the images I’m inspired to keep going! My greatest compliment is starting a photoshoot with someone nervous about getting photographed and by the end of the session they are telling me they can’t wait to do it again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I truly love capturing all of the beauty that this world has to offer and sharing that with as many people as I can.

Sometimes that comes in the form of a beautiful sunrise, an incredible animal, a senior about to start their next phase of life, or a family wanting to capture a moment in time that will stay with them forever.

Since I am both a landscape and a portrait photographer I love capturing families surrounded by beautiful scenes.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Photography is such a hard world to predict. I love teaching others photography and helping them to grow.

Technology in photography has changed our world, but you still need to understand so much to create a beautiful image. When people see a beautiful picture they often say things to us like “Wow, you must have a great camera.” While that statement isn’t untrue one must also have the correct knowledge to bring the two together.

Artificial Intelligence is currently a big topic of discussion. Amazing otherworldly images are being created without leaving the comfort of one’s home. I think that there will always be a stronger desire to see the natural beauty of this earth over artificially created beauty.
