Conversations with Carly Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carly Jones.

Hi Carly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My love for photography goes back as far as I can remember, a little girl using my dad’s camera in the backyard to take pictures of my dad’s garden and our pets. When I was in middle school, my dad got me my first of a few, point-and-shoot cameras. It was hot pink and I took it everywhere. In high school, my dad got me my first DSLR, A Nikon D3100. I took photography classes and photo editing classes in high school. Photography was always a hobby and creative outlet for me. Something I was good at and made me happy. A few years ago, I created my business Carly Adalyn Photography. I started to read photography-related books and also tons of YouTube videos. Second shooting weddings for other photographers was huge in helping me learn everything about weddings. There’s only so much books can provide. By the time I was booking my own wedding clients, I was ready and confident I could capture someone’s day without missing any important moments.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, it’s been pretty smooth and I owe that to God. I’ve had nothing but amazing supporters, clients, and educators.

I’m my own worst critic. Imposter syndrome is one of my biggest challenges. Constantly comparing myself to others when they have been photographers for 10+years professionally.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a Greenville, SC-based wedding and elopement photographer. Documenting the madly in love, fun and adventurous couples, wherever their love story may take me. Being a wedding photographer is so much more than a job to me. It’s something I truly love doing and take very seriously. You can’t get those moments back. It’s always an honor when someone chooses you to capture their special day. I am proud of the way my photos artfully tell this important chapter of their story. My work embodies the real, the candid, and the authentic. My passion lies in creating images inspired by the love between the couple and the details of their day. I fully invest myself in every one of my couples to make their wedding day as stress-free and perfect as I possibly can.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
GOD- I owe it all to him and his blessings. I wouldn’t be where I am today without his faithfulness and goodness. We moved my business 10 hours away and within three weeks of being in SC I started booking weddings. 2022 is almost completely full with 2023 weddings already on the calendar. If you would have asked me before I moved if I would be this booked in such a short time, I would have said absolutely not. I know God would provide but I didn’t know how much. God has showed me once again that I can trust him and he will provide.

MY HUSBAND DOUG- I’d be lost without him. He encouraged me to start my business and has supported me and continues to support me through this whole journey. He built my website for me and continues to help me with all the website problems that may come up and all the back-end stuff. He also is there to help build any prop ideas I come up with for photo sessions. I am so blessed and thankful for him and his help.

MY DAD – my love for photography started as a little girl about six, using his DSLR to take pictures of my dog and flowers in the backyard. He always told me I had an eye for photography. I don’t know if that was true at the time but it stuck with me. He was the one to get me my first point & shoot camera and my first DSLR. If it wasn’t for him, I’m not sure if photography would have ever been my hobby, let alone became a wedding and elopement photographer.
