Conversations with Brock C. Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brock C. Edwards.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When my oldest daughter was still a teenager, she was really interested in becoming an author. She would bounce ideas off of me, Mainly because one of our favorite pastimes was scrutinizing or praising plots and storylines for iconic 80s and 90s tv shows and movies.. One day I had an idea for a novel and I told her about it. I really wanted her to write it and she loved the idea but just not enough to take it on. That was fine but the idea began to haunt me. I couldn’t get it out of my mind so I eventually just started writing it myself. I didn’t have much of an idea of what I was doing but I eventually figured it out and decided that I really enjoyed writing. Just days before Christmas I got my second novel to my editor and have lots of ideas for future projects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing up in a single-parent home wasn’t easy. My father died just before my 7th birthday leaving my mother to finish raising my teenage brother and sister, along with me, by herself. I had to figure a lot of life out by myself without a dominant male figure around. My mother never remarried and my brother and sister helped me the best they could. I, unfortunately, lost my brother 10 years ago due to a medical condition. The things my brother taught and told me about are a lot of where my maternal comes from.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m pretty proud of the barber shop that I started in Burnsville, NC, which is just outside of Asheville, when I was 23 years old. I left Edwards Custom Cuts in the hands of my sister and friend in 2014 for coastal life. I love the mountains but definitely prefer the beach. I was primarily a stay at home dad until I started my writing career then eventually a customer tumbler business with my wife in 2020. Live YOUniquely is the name of that business then not long after I started my own publishing company, Rustic Roads Publishing LLC. My first novel, Reconcile Run, is definitely one of my crown jewels and I’m super excited to debut my second novel, Neon Gray, this coming spring. Neon Gray is a modern-day heist story that is centered around coastal Carolina’s legend, the Gray Man of Pawley’s Island.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Buying my books and spreading the word to friends and family would be a great way to help support me. Along with reviews on social media. I’m especially fond of TikTok and Facebook and can easily be reached on those platforms. My wife and I are also always going around the county doing events like the Blue Crab Festival, Surfside Methodist Church Fall Festival, and others such as those. We set up the tumblers and my wife sells those while I’m next to her signing books. We’re always looking for new events to do.
