Conversations with Blaise Barber

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blaise Barber.

Hi Blaise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
After working as a contemporary art dealer at Sotheby’s auction house and Blaise & Co. Contemporary Art in my native New York City, I switched gears to attend law school and be a litigator at two global law firms. In 2018, I was ready to try something new, having been born and raised in New York, so I moved to Charleston and continue to work as a lawyer and government employee. More recently, I founded The Finds, an online content platform at BlaiseBarber.com (as well as on Instagram @blaise________ and on LTK @Blaise_Barber), where I harken back to my artistic eye and love for identifying the unique. The Finds started as a creative outline for me in the midst of public closures, and has now blossomed into a growing community of women around the country to visit The Finds website and social media platforms daily for a glimpse into charming life in Charleston, my insights into how to weave joy into the daily experience, and of course my latest Finds for all things wardrobe and home.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Founding The Finds has been a gratifying endeavor. The first few weeks were filled with late nights, coming home from the office to work into the early morning hours learning how to build and host my website, maintain domains, comply with Federal Trade Commission and copyright law, apply for and use affiliate marketing platforms such as LTK and RewardStyle, and of course, generate the publish imagery and copy needed to present a sophisticated product to my followers and cohesive platform to my collaborators. Once that groundwork was finished, I took off producing blog posts, Instagram reels, LTK collages, and everything in between to capture and maintain my viewers’ attention. I’m bursting with ideas such that I have daily posts lined up for weeks in advance, and love to engage with followers of The Finds on a daily basis.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for presenting followers of The Finds with a New Yorker’s aesthetic superimposed on the Lowcountry experience. I call upon my degrees in Art History and Art Business to source ideas, inspiration, and objects that spark a sense of wonder and journey. Coupled with my detail-oriented approach, as honed in law school and in law firms, I compile those ideas into polished content that always ties a Find, such as a beautiful dress or home good, to a bigger concept that we all yearn for, such as creating a sense of comfort and or sparked joy in your daily life. For collaborators–brands with whom I work to share their products or concepts–this means they are gaining access to a world of readers who value the work behind their brand and trust my recommendation.

What matters most to you? Why?
Being authentic to myself is my priority, especially when, as a content creator, I work in the art of influence. I always honor my Northeast urban aesthetic while embracing the beautiful life I’ve found here in Charleston. It can be tempting to look over your shoulder and wonder what other content creators are doing, but followers of The Finds appreciate that I stay true to myself and adhere to my own compass.
