Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Manning.
Anthony, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2016, as I prepared to transition out of the United States Army, I faced significant uncertainty about my future and next steps in life. Before leaving, I visited a local animal shelter with a friend, where I met a four-month-old German Shepherd who would ultimately change the course of my life. I adopted him and named him Ghillie.
Early on, it became clear that I had much to learn about dog ownership and training; however, through that challenge, I discovered a renewed sense of purpose. I committed myself to working with Ghillie every day, educating myself through extensive research, hands-on experience, and guidance from skilled mentors. Through this process, I developed not only a strong bond with him, but also a passion for helping others build meaningful relationships with their dogs.
Over the past decade, I have worked professionally as a dog trainer, supporting thousands of clients and their dogs in achieving better communication, trust, and quality of life together.
On August 16, 2025, Ghillie passed away. His impact on my life continues to shape my work and values. In his honor, I am dedicated to giving back to the community through supporting rescue organizations, participating in therapy dog work with my Border Collie, Puck—particularly with children with special needs—and contributing in any way I can to improve the lives of dogs and their owners.
Ghillie’s legacy lives on through the work I do every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting a new business has not been without its challenges, but I believe that ups and downs are a natural part of the process. One of the most difficult aspects for me was relocating and building everything from the ground up. I moved here on April 1, 2024, and adjusting to a new environment—the area, culture, and community—while simultaneously settling into my new life required significant effort.
To establish my business, I took a proactive approach by connecting with local shelters, rescue organizations, veterinary offices, and pet-related stores. I introduced my services, offered assistance where needed, and distributed business cards to build relationships and increase visibility within the community.
Despite the challenges, I view this journey as an essential part of growth. Overcoming obstacles has not only strengthened my resilience but has also made each success more meaningful and rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do private 1-on-1 in home dog training and we specialize in behavior modification, basic obedience, puppy training and off leash. I am very well known for the convenience and affordable pricing while delivering in depth dog training skills and knowledge. I would say that I am most proud of how far I have come and the things I have been able to accomplish in the short 2 years since moving here. I have partnered with multiple rescues to help fosters work with dogs to get them adopted, group training classes for rescues and have even done some therapy dog work with kids. What sets me apart from other companies is how much we give back to the community that he been so welcoming to us since we got here.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
A few that come to mind are patience, consistency, communication skills and understanding of canine behavior. Dog training is a marathon not a sprint, this is a lifelong commitment we make to our dogs that we will satisfy there needs on a daily basis by providing clear boundaries and clear communication as to the expectation of the dog.
