Conversations with Alisha Spangler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Spangler.

Alisha Spangler

Hi Alisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As a young mother at only 15, I aspired to show my son that you can do anything regardless of the circumstances. I began my career path in Pharmacy and went on to acquire my Bachelor’s degree. Being the first in my family to earn a college degree, I still needed more fulfillment. After much debate, I worked backward as I enrolled in cosmetology at Paul Mitchell, the School Greenville. I enrolled knowing I wanted to be a business owner. After graduating, I opened my salon, Meraki & Co. Salon. 6 years later, we found our place on the outskirts of Greer. We have expanded into a full-service salon, spa, and boutique. I have found my purpose in serving others through beauty and uplifting confidence. At Meraki & Co. Salon, we have built a relaxing environment that feels like home. My husband builds everything in the salon, and my girls help me see my vision through by building purposeful relationships with their beloved clients.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had our fair share of struggles, from being shut down during COVID-19 for 8 weeks to relocating to a larger building a city away and starting over with a passionate team of professionals. We would do it all over again because our passion for our industry and clients outweighs our struggles.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a salon owner, boutique owner, entrepreneur, and hairstylist. Behind the chair, with my clients, I am a master colorist. During my future professional time at Paul Mitchell, I promised to try everything and truly learn from it. I have done everything behind the chair, from hand-tied extensions to perms. I am honest with my clients and build heartfelt relationships with them. I am most proud of not giving up when things get complicated and continuing to grow. I strive to create a salon environment and client relationship that is few and far between.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Most people are shocked when they find out I am 36 years old with a 20-year-old. They were also surprised when they found out I opened my salon right out of hair school and that I do not have a business background.
