Hi Toiekka, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey began in Timmonsville, SC, where a thirst for knowledge and a desire to make a difference propelled me from high school to Coastal Carolina University. There, I earned a Bachelor’s in Public Health, specializing in grant writing, which ignited my passion for helping organizations secure funding. My career took its first turn at McLeod Regional Medical Center as a Medical Scribe, where I developed a deep admiration for ER nurses, inspiring me to pursue nursing myself. Balancing entrepreneurship with education, I launched a successful wig business while earning my Nursing degree. Becoming an ER nurse marked a significant phase in my career, enriching my skills and allowing me to mentor new nurses. The adventure of travel nursing broadened my horizons, especially in pediatric emergency care. Embracing motherhood introduced me to a new life chapter, leading me to case management and then to a role as an Appeals Analyst RN. Parallel to my nursing career, I’ve thrived as a Grant Writer, Business Credit and Funding Coach, and an author driven by a mission to empower others. My multifaceted journey reflects my commitment to growth, helping others, and leveraging my diverse skills to make a meaningful impact.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating my career hasn’t been easy, with imposter syndrome and self-doubt marking my journey. Despite my successes as a nurse, entrepreneur, and author, questioning my worth and capabilities was a constant challenge. Balancing these roles, especially while embracing motherhood, intensified these feelings. Yet, confronting these struggles head-on has been transformative, teaching me the power of self-belief and resilience. Every hurdle has become a stepping stone towards greater confidence and determination, fueling my commitment to making a meaningful impact in the various facets of my life.
