Hi Tiffany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hello, I am Tiffany H. Palmer, founder, and owner of Natural XScentrics, LLC. I began this company to provide my community with quality, affordable, natural skincare products. When I first began switching from store-bought products to natural products, I quickly learned how expensive that could become. Having acquired a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Winthrop University, a certification in Biotechnology and Chemical Operating from York Technical College, and working as a chemist for the past 8 years, I decided that I wanted to become a manufacturer of products with a purpose. So many companies provide natural care that is so expensive that many in our community are not able to provide their bodies with the internal and external benefits of natural products. I aim to educate our community so that taking care of our bodies naturally is considered a necessity, not a luxury. Good health should be accessible to all, not just the wealthy! I’m very imaginative, and as my imagination grew, so did my plans to own my business so that others could experience the greatness of my products. With persistence, consistency, determination (and a lot of personal investment), my vision kept progressing right before my eyes. Now, I’m too far along to even think about giving up!
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth ride by any means. I began building my business while working full-time, becoming a new mother, and building a fresh relationship (that has now ended in marriage). Taking this journey, step by step, with minimal direction or coaching, has been very educational. There were many trials and errors, a ton of paperwork trying to get everything legalized on my own to save on costs and a lot of time devotion. I eventually started taking classes toward my Master’s Degree, hoping to learn more about what I was getting myself into. My main struggle was balancing my time between family, work, business, and school. Not to mention, amid all those things came a wedding proposal, which brought about wedding planning and activities. Obtaining proper permits, licensing, and general need-to-know information about CBD regulations is also a lot of work. Obtaining funding for a CBD manufacturing facility has been a great challenge that will be reconciled soon. Self-sabotage has also been a struggle I have been working through currently.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mission Statement: Our mission is to REJUVENATE and HEAL bodies within our community by supplying THERAPEUTIC skincare and CBD products while embracing our ECCENTRIC culture.
Natural XScentrics is an all-natural skincare company. We pride ourselves on providing quality, all-natural products affordable to all communities. At NXS, we believe healthy bodies should be necessary, not a luxury. Each raw material used to manufacture NXS products is meant to benefit the body in some way, down to the combination of therapeutic essential oils added for scents. We use no fragrances or other chemicals for thermal stability, and we do not sell water! Our body butter is liable to melt in the heat, but if you place them in the fridge for a little while, it will harden back to consistency. There are only beneficial ingredients, such as Shea butter, Coconut oil. Mango butter, Jojoba oil, Sweet Almond oil, Grapeseed oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, and Avocado oils make up our product lines.
After seeing my parents struggle with severe knee pains (my dad) and chronic immune system deficiencies (my mom), I wanted to try a holistic approach that could help them without prescription drugs. I began making CBD products because I believe in the healing power of the plant. I got really excited when my dad told me how much it helped him! He swears by this stuff now! I started introducing it to people with pains around me, and the product has made a name for itself. It brings my soul great joy knowing I can create something so pure for people in need. This product allowed my dad to hold out on knee surgery for a year! I have gained the business of pre-surgery, and post-surgery patients, car wreck victims, chronic arthritis patients, and the sleep deprived. We currently have CBD soaps, pain relief creams, sugar scrubs, CBD oil Tinctures, and CBD lip balm.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Many of my coworkers became my “trial partners.” They were always willing to test out my products and provided constructive criticism on how I could keep moving forward. They always encouraged me to pursue my dreams and the business I was looking to build. They also became my first customer base. Hearing how my products improved their skin or other issues always made me proud of what I produced. My friends and family have also been some of my major supporters throughout the process. It has been the support of my village that has kept me moving along. I once had a team of 3 awesome employees that helped me get NXS off the ground. They were essential to the business when my time was extremely limited. 2 other black female business owners have also inspired me. The three of us often meet to talk about plans, ideas, and new changes within each of our businesses, as well as how we can continue to support each others’ next moves. Having such a group has been a relief when times get hard and giving up seems so easy. I have recently been paired with a group of mentors through the city’s Gravity Center Entrepreneur Program. This program has already presented me with opportunities for growth within my business. I’m excited to see all they offer and what I have to provide them with.
