Community Highlights: Meet Jonathan Aymin of Common Sense Events Inc

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Aymin.

Jonathan Aymin

Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Jonathan Aymin’s journey in the wedding industry started with a hospitality staffing company that provided servers, bartenders, brand ambassadors, and other essential hospitality roles. He grew it to almost 1,000 team members and regularly delivered unforgettable client experiences throughout Southern California, even staffing major events like Comic-Con and the Farmers Insurance Open golf tournaments.

After that staffing company was acquired, Jonathan’s passion for the industry and entrepreneurship led him to design and launch his first wedding venue in San Diego. That quickly grew into managing multiple venues across several states.

Today, his company oversees venues from California to Connecticut (and plenty of places in between) while maintaining a family-run, personalized approach—something that sets them apart from other management companies in the industry.

In 2020, Jonathan saw the need for better education and support for venue owners and operators, so he launched The Venue Rx podcast and YouTube channel. It’s become a go-to resource for professionals in the wedding and events world, offering practical advice, inspiration, and insights.

He also founded WEVA—the Wedding & Event Venue Association—the first national organization dedicated to venue owners and operators. Through WEVA, Jonathan is on a mission to connect professionals, share specialized resources, and provide education that elevates the entire industry.

When he’s not running his businesses, Jonathan stays busy as a husband and father of six. He loves playing basketball and soccer in local leagues, spending quality time with his family, brainstorming new entrepreneurial ideas, and helping others chase their dreams.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road for Jonathan. Like many entrepreneurs, he’s faced challenges that shaped his journey. Early on, building and managing a hospitality staffing company required overcoming the complexities of scaling a team to nearly 1,000 members while maintaining quality and delivering exceptional client experiences. Balancing rapid growth with operational efficiency was no small task.

After selling the staffing company, launching and expanding a venue management business presented its own hurdles, from navigating multi-state operations to ensuring a consistent, family-run feel across all venues. There were also moments of trial and error in designing processes, creating accountability systems, and implementing technology to streamline operations.

Through these struggles, Jonathan learned invaluable lessons about leadership, adaptability, and the importance of surrounding himself with a strong team. These experiences not only shaped his success but also fueled his passion for helping others in the wedding and event industry avoid similar pitfalls.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something surprising that most people who know Jonathan or our work at Common Sense Events might not realize is that Jonathan’s journey began with a hospitality staffing company, not directly in venue management. He built that company from the ground up, growing it to nearly 1,000 team members and staffing major events like Comic-Con and the Farmers Insurance Open.

This early experience shaped his deep understanding of what it takes to deliver exceptional service, manage teams, and create memorable client experiences. It’s this foundation that inspired his transition into venue management, where he now applies those lessons on a larger scale, helping venues thrive across the country.
