Community Highlights: Meet Jamie Miller of The 518 Group /Project First

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Miller.

Hi Jamie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to Entrepreneurship began after I submitted my 2 weeks notice to a company where I felt I’d hit a professional ceiling and didn’t feel that I could expand my creative ideas for additional opportunities to grow. I still have a very great relationship with my previous employer and I’m grateful for the support that was shown as I exited the company to begin my journey as an entrepreneur.

I started my company in 2012 with no business plan or money saved to develop my agency just the ability to see a bigger vision once I got started on the path where I knew I could expand.

I was fortunate enough to connect and build with amazing people within my network to assist in growing my business as well as being part of some life-changing projects along the way.

Entrepreneurship takes an insane amount of discipline to stay focused while you build and nurture your business as well as having the right people surrounding you to keep you lifted, motivated, structured and productive.

This year, I’ll be celebrating 10 years of Entrepreneurship! Wow, I can’t believe the time has zoomed by so quickly lol…

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life is a “smooth road”. You truly have to understand the areas where you are strong and the areas that require more knowledge you delegate those that have mastered the space to free up your bandwidth for other things. Much of my struggle centered around getting in my own way and not progressing because of self-doubt. Often you question if the path you are taking is the right one but overall, you stay the course and watch how you blossom as you grow. Throughout my journey, I’ve had to encounter dishonest people, individuals that will completely drain your energy, and many that take advantage of your work ethic and ability to excel in spaces and places where one may lack. Strength in mind and prayer have helped to override a lot of the struggles and as you understand more of your self-discovery, you’ll be aware of those red flags sooner.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The 518 Group is a marketing, branding, and media agency that specializes in helping businesses tap into their brand voice and messaging, and create visibility for building their brands to generate revenue for profit. We work with clients to provide event management, brand management, brand consultations, media pitching and placements, creative strategy, and social media management.

Much of my work has been behind the scenes of enhancing others but I can think of several projects and campaigns in my career that have far exceeded my expectations. I’ve organically built an active community of millennial-based women (Dear Sister CLT) who seek to share their resources, networks, services, etc. to encourage them to build, grow, fail, and pivot if necessary. It’s such a blessing to have curated an event such as Dear Sister CLT to nurture all of these beautiful blossoming women to support them in progressing forward to the next step/space or season in their journey.

I consider myself a conduit, a connector for many. I love to celebrate women as we are leaning into our power, intelligence, skillset, and strength.

What sets me apart from others is the secret sauce that I possess. I’m a very hands-on business owner and I value the feedback and the connections with my clients. I love the process of something that is just an idea behind a vision that we can create a strategy behind to execute.

Project First Inc. is my service organization centered around Education and Empowerment. We provide service to our community and projects that are aligned with our mission. Annually we award a graduating senior with a scholarship award to their institution of higher learning to assist with books or tuition. Just recently we created more programs and events to expand the organization and offer more opportunities to those that are open to our offerings.

We are blessed to receive the majority of our clientele from word of mouth and amazing testimonials.

What matters most to you? Why?
Health is most important. Internal and External health as it is the catalyst for every other component of your everyday life. Healthy minds, hearts, and spirits radiate from within that in turn can produce some of the most effective and efficient work. Happiness as a whole is absolutely important, why because there are a lot of people that are functioning daily that are extremely unhappy. Having a strong support circle to understand you in your most vulnerable moments is valuable. Finding joy and peace in spaces that hold you accountable is a blessing. Peace over everything and release all things that no longer deserve you or serve you.
