Today we’d like to introduce you to A’Veon Davis.
A’Veon, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always had a love for fashion since a little girl. I would always play dress-up with different pieces of clothing. Growing up my family and friends would always ask me to help them find outfits for different events. At that point, I knew I wanted to do something dealing with fashion in the future.
In the low country, I never met any personal or wardrobe stylist, so I didn’t know where to begin. I would watch different stylists on YouTube for months to learn more information. I started Couture Ten as a junior in college at the age of 21. I was still in school at the time majoring in Biology. When I began receiving clients, I realized I had a passion for medicine and fashion.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a small business owner has not been easy. I’m learning everything on my own as my business continues to grow. Also, the biggest struggle for me was balancing a business and being a full-time college student. I am a biology major. Therefore, I had to make sacrifices when it came to school. I sometimes would find myself having to juggle between studying for exams or working with clients.
Styling itself is something that hasn’t been a walk in the park. It can get overwhelming dealing with multiple clients at once. I’ve had to learn how to manage my time better when it comes to dealing with specific projects and more than one client throughout the week.
Lastly, another challenge of mine would be working with certain fashion styles and styling genders specifically men. It is difficult for me to put male pieces together. This is something that I’m working on, and I plan to perfect it in the future.
As you know, we’re big fans of Couture Ten. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Couture Ten is a business that focuses on fashion. I am a virtual wardrobe stylist. I’ve been styling my friends and family for years, but I recently got the courage to pursue this love for fashion publicly. I launched my business on April 2, 2022.
When I’m working with clients, I try to style them based on the style they have for themselves, but I also encourage them to step outside their comfort zone sometimes. I’m thankful for my growth over a short period of time. I remember how difficult it was for me to get clients but now I have encountered many women and men who allow me to bring my vision to life.
