Today we’d like to introduce you to Shateia Monae Ellis.
Hi Shateia Monae, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started modeling a little over ten years ago. My passion for modeling started in the 5th grade when America’s next top model came on. I was so intrigued by the casting calls, competition, photo shoots etc, I just knew that was my calling. The older I got, the more I wanted to do. December of 2020, I started looking into selling my own lashes and liquid matte lipsticks. I wanted colors that would pop out and feathered lashes that would stand out, so I began researching. Everything came into fruition in spring of 2021. The name of my business is Éanom (ay-nom) beauty, which is monaé backwards ha. I’m still learning a lot about it all, but the goal still remains… never give up. After my younger brother died in July of this year, I literally thought I was going to give up, with prayers and a strong support system I’m still holding strong. He would want me to. Not only do I enjoy being a professional model, and selling beauty products, I love ministering to people and encouraging people. My life journey was one heck of a ride and I just know my testimony will free others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all. I thought building my website, packaging, shipment etc would have been a challenge, actually maintaining inventory, marketing and learning how to establish business credit rather than funding my business out of pocket has been the greatest challenge for me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a professional model and I also sell beauty products, such as lashes and lipsticks; I will be adding more products so stay tuned. I’m especially known for as “Monaé the model”. I am beyond proud of that because it took years and years of letdowns to get where I’m at. Imagine constantly getting overlooked because your type just wasn’t it. My dedication and how I persevere through things is what separates me, my energy is one of a kind.
I’m extremely proud of how I embrace challenges that come my way and, I’m far from shy to share my stories. One, dealing with alcohol abuse about two years ago when Covid started and I dealt with that head-on. I just want people to know it’s never too late and don’t beat themselves up nor be embarrassed by past mistakes. It’s all about how you recover and stay consistent.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about my city is the southern part. I embrace the different accents, southern dishes, southern hospitality, etc. what I don’t like about my city is that it’s not diverse enough.
