Check Out Shaquana Rouse’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquana Rouse.

Hi Shaquana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I never knew I was going to be an entrepreneur until the age of 23 and I discovered entrepreneurship from social media and reading! I literally was fascinated with becoming a self-made boss but didn’t know the struggles that came behind it. I dabbled in a few things at first and in between my journey. My first business was a clothing boutique, I went in with a business partner in 2012 but unfortunately, that didn’t work out so I branched out and created my own website with inventory (Accessories) I believe that lasted until somewhere around early 2014. To me, that was a big failure but I didn’t give up! Around 2016 I opened up a mobile bartending business, having experience as a bartender since I was 21, at 28 I decided to start over with something completely different! 3 years into that I decided to write a book, now with so much experience at starting a business I wrote and named my book Boss in Progress, detailing my experiences including it being a book on helping upcoming entrepreneurs start a business. Now fast forward I am now a proud owner of a clothing boutique called Summers Treasure Box, which is located inside of my mother’s boutique, Next to My Step-Fathers Tax Prep Company here in North Charleston, ( Quality Tax Services & Quality 1 Boutique that features other small business owners. SMR Bartending has been revamped and I’ve included being a mixologist instructor. I am also a host of an Airbnb located in Hanahan which has been an amazing experience, As well as being a notary in the state of South Carolina. Everything I’ve done has been such an amazing experience. So much good trial and error, I’m admiring my growth through it all! At this point, I’m just focused on the success of my businesses and possibly adding on another soon.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, there were a lot of pauses that I had to take in each and every one of my businesses.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Seasonal Tax Preparer, I help prepare and file income taxes. I am also studying to become a freight dispatcher.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
The best thing about my city is its beauty! The history that we have especially the Geechee Gullah culture! We are a tight-knit community. The least thing I like about my city is that I believe we can do better at supporting one another. Other than that I love my city! I’ve moved around a bit but I will always end up back at my birthplace.
