Check Out Matt Williams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Williams.

Hi Matt, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My love of photography grew from my love of nature and traveling. I have always loved being outdoors and sharing the beauty of our world. I eventually purchased my first DSLR in 2009 and started doing paid photography gigs right away. I started doing portraits, events, and weddings in addition to my full-time job at the time.

I eventually started doing editorial work for some local magazines and our state magazine. My business really took off when I got into commercial and product photography and have been doing that full time for the last 5 years. I am now also offering photo instruction and will be co-hosting my first landscape photography workshop this fall.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being a full-time artist and entrepreneur always has its challenges. However, I see failures and obstacles as opportunities to learn, grow, and better myself. My biggest challenge has been to always stay true to creating the kind of images that I want to create and not be stuck creating images that don’t excite me just to pay the bills. Keeping myself creative, inspired, and motivated to create doesn’t always come easy.

I have learned that living a balanced life and taking care of yourself helps to fill the creative well. Making a living while being authentic to your own artistic vision is a challenge but offers so many rewards. I still work at it every day but creating clear intentions, believing in myself, and taking advantage of opportunities when they present themselves have helped me to get where I am today.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer specializing in landscape, portraits, events, and commercial Photography. I also offer individual and small group photography instruction and workshops. I am proud of all of the special memories that I have captured for my clients and all the small businesses I have helped through my images over the years. I am proud of the beauty I get to capture and share every day while helping people to get outside and experience nature.
