Check Out Makayla Taylor ’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Makayla Taylor .

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I was a performing arts and film major in college. I lived in Savannah, Georgia, and attended The Savannah College of Arts and Design. Photography started as a hobby at first. I received my first camera as a gift from my husband four years ago. I am a self-taught photographer. I watched YouTube videos on how to edit in Lightroom and Photoshop. I subscribed to different photographers’ YouTube pages to learn camera techniques. I started out taking pictures of my family and friends. I wasn’t serious about turning my hobby into a business until about a year ago. I became a confident photographer and started offering services to more than just my family. I started thinking about photography as a career and didn’t hesitate to start planning a business plan and launch Makayla Taylor Photography. We have been open for almost six months, and every day is validation that I am on the right path. I enjoy my client’s reactions when they see the session results. I love capturing moments that will last a lifetime.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are still fairly new, but the challenge we have faced now is advertising to a wide audience in the area to gain more clients. Especially with us being new photographers in the Simpsonville/Greenville area, it is important to advertise and get more content for new clients. Posting on social media every day only goes so far.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A lot of my previous work consists of family/children portraits. I am currently moving towards specializing in lifestyle portraits and boudoir. I love the beauty of the style and capturing the essence of my client’s personality and aura. I typically book all of my sessions on the weekend, but we are available during the week upon request. I create affordable, high quality photos and it is important for my clients to have a fantastic experience and cherish their photos forever.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Risk-taking and making strong choices have been drilled in my head as an actor and performer, and for any creative mind, artist, or business person, risk-taking is all part of the process. Starting my photography business was a risk because you never know if it’ll succeed. I was curious to know if it’ll be profitable or worth my time when I went for it and tried. Trying is a risk in itself.
