Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Summers.
Hi Lisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In my mid-40s, I had the unexpected surprise of a pregnancy. Sadly, this pregnancy did not end up the way that I’d hoped. I was carrying twins and lost them both – a devastating time both physically and emotionally. But God… He gave me such encouragement through His word during the time leading up to the loss that I was actually prepared for it – as much as one can be. Our twin girls are named Mercy Bella and Verity Joy, and their names have become the name of my business, Mercy Verity Candles.
This has been Much more than just a business because it has given me countless opportunities to connect with other women who share the same experience of loss. Many of these women have struggled to fully heal or even talk about it, but finding a common ground and sharing proves to encourage each of us. And for this, I’m so thankful.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
2020 brought new challenges: The biggest struggles I’ve had have been getting supplies in a timely manner and making the budget stretch as everything has soared in price.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I make my own proprietary blend of wax: olive and soy, I spend hours sourcing beautiful vessels that can be reused long after the candle is gone. I don’t desire to be a candle maker that has products in hundreds of stores – my favorite part of being a candle maker is meeting customers face to face – like at the Saturday Market in downtown Greenville. I have been part of it since the first year of opening my business. I’m in my 13th year as a vendor and love having 25 Saturdays out of the year set aside for the Market.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Going swimming at our friend’s pool. But I absolutely Hated that mom made us pull weeds around the pool as a thank you. Haha!
