Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Spears.
Hi Lindsey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always had an interest in art and figured I would at least pursue it as a hobby or side gig. I ended up studying Zoology and working at the Jacksonville Zoo but once I became pregnant with my first child, I knew I wanted to find a way to work from home and decided to revisit my passion for art. The rest is history! I’ve been following that dream ever since.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having never attended art school there was a lot of trial and error on the creative side along with the usual struggles of running a small business. It’s not just art itself, it’s social media, customer relations, shipments, packaging, and the always dreaded taxes. I really had to teach myself how to run a legitimate business while also making sure I still loved what I was doing.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize mostly in live wedding paintings and murals!! I would say what I’m most proud of is my series of community murals. I was able to organize, design, and oversee completely volunteer-based murals that had both adults and students participating. Through those projects, we were able to paint murals for a nursing home, an elementary school, and a local animal shelter. I’m probably most known for my use of bright colors!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I got married at 18 which really seems to blow people’s minds. Looking back at how young we looked I would honestly question it too! But here we are 7 years later in our second home and with two kids, one about to enter first grade!!
