Today, we’d like to introduce you to LeeAnne Cavin. She and her team shared their story with us below:
As the Care & Recovery director at Grace Church, LeeAnne learned about the challenges of the housing market in the Upstate through the eyes of a church member and friend. Seeing the obstacles firsthand stirred both compassion and a deep desire to help. LeeAnne grew up with high responsibility, loyalty, and a willingness to support others. As a child in a military family, supporting others, the importance of teamwork, and defending the weak were taught. Before working at Grace Church, LeeAnne obtained her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of South Carolina and worked as a project manager at Greenville-based Liberty Life Insurance Company. Her education, life experience, and work history all came together with launching Front Porch Housing. Front Porch Housing grew out of the Care & Recovery ministry at Grace Church and is now a separate non-profit that serves individuals and families seeking supportive housing. Front Porch Housing is a three-year supportive housing program designed to help individuals and families in need build a firm foundation for continued sobriety, gainful employment, financial independence, and spiritual maturity.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Affordable housing is a dignified and safe connection with local resources and coordination of services and transportation.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Front Porch Housing seeks to connect individuals and families to the community. Addiction and housing struggles are often tied to a lack of connection. Connections to resources and healthy relationships are key to our success in life. Front Porch seeks to welcome our residents so they know they are valuable, loved, and supported. We offer individual care plans, classes in financial literacy, life skills, and more to help equip residents with a more significant support network and resources to live a healthy, interdependent life in the next season. We celebrate when residents are ready to move to the next season! As an organization, Front Porch values connection and partnership as well. Change starts with one, but lasting growth happens when communities join together in care. We seek to connect residents with local churches and organizations. Front Porch partners with Anger Management of the Upstate, City Center Counseling, David’s Table, Ember Modern Medicine, Grace Church, Greenville Literacy Association, Harvest Anglican Church, Homes of Hope, JumpStart, Jasmine Road, Mill Village Ministries, Miracle Hill, Mosaic, NewSpring Church Greenville, Nicole Felkel MSW, LISW-CP, Palmetto Proactive, Safe Harbor, Self-Help Credit Union, The Phoenix Center, Triple P Parenting, United Ministries, World Relief, YMCA of Greenville, and more.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
LeeAnne is determined and doesn’t give up easily. She is a cheerleader and encourager who loves to celebrate others’ successes. One of her greatest joys is helping someone see their value in Christ and believe that He has a plan for their life.
