Check Out Lacy Ngo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacy Ngo.

Lacy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a dietitian writer. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition at Clemson University and my Master of Science at Winthrop University.

I now write for media outlets and supplement companies.

Along with freelance writing, I have written several books, including “The Nourishing Meal Builder” books, “Nutrition for Youth Soccer”, “How Expert Guide to Diet and Nutrition,” and the children’s book, “Can Food Give You Superpowers?”

When I am not writing for other companies, I write for my own blogs, Mindfulness in Faith and Food, and Paddle Plan It. Mindfulness in Faith and Food informs and guides the reader on evidence-based nutrition and faith-based mindful eating.

On Paddle Plan It, readers can find everything they need to know about paddleboarding for health and wellness.

As a writer, I have been quoted or featured in publications like The Healthy (a branch of Reader’s Digest), Parade, VeryWellFit, Fitbit.com, Eat This, Not That!, and Byrdie.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Establishing myself as a writer took time…years. No one knew me. So why should they hire me over dietitians who were already writing for big media outlets?

I started building my writing portfolio by writing for my own website. Eventually, I was asked to contribute a quote for a large media outlet and then another. Soon, I was one of the go-to dietitians for media quotes. One day, I acquired my first freelance writing assignment. Then more freelance jobs started lining up, including a job writing an entire book. Now I write for several websites, endorse products for companies I believe in, and have written several books.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in evidence-based nutrition and faith-based mindful eating. In my writing, I like to share not only what the research says, but also my personal story. I lost 50 pounds when I, ironically, stopped focusing on weight loss. Instead, I started focusing on joyfully and mindfully eating foods that nourish my mind, body, and soul. Through writing, I try to guide others on their health journeys as well.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The characteristics needed for this job are an educational background in nutrition, some writing skills (although you will learn and grow), a passion for health and wellness, and a love for people.
