Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Ayers.
Hi Kristen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in West Virginia and my family always loved coming to Myrtle Beach. We literally have a “Weirton Week”. When I went to college I moved to Ohio and started a family. I have two small children and a phenomenal husband, Chris, and we love going on vacation together and exploring new places. When the pandemic hit, we really took a second to evaluate what we wanted to do and where we wanted to do it. I truly felt like Myrtle Beach was such a great location to spend time together and have fun too. We came down in 2021, stayed with some friends in Surfside right on the beach, and fell in love with the pristine beaches and family feel. That is very hard to find. So we took a leap of faith and bought our own little piece of paradise, Boats n Hopes Beach House, and went to work to make it our own.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We realized that we couldn’t get down to the beach as often as we had hoped and aren’t ready to move down permanently. Plus, the kids reached school age, so we decided it would be a great opportunity to share the 4 bedrooms, 3 bath house with others who wanted the same feelings of a safe space to spend time with family and still be 10 minutes away from the airport, mini-golf, shopping, etc. Acclimating ourselves to the Surfside Beach area has been pretty cool. The City of Surfside is wonderful to work with. And the neighbors??? They are some of the kindest people we have ever met. We truly found a beautiful gem of a town.
We have been so impressed with the local companies and owners opening in town. Local restaurants like Ultimate California Pizza, Captain George’s buffet, & We R Sweetz and entertainment like Selfie World Myrtle Beach, the really fun place for all the memorable pictures and entertainment for your teens. I go with my friends all the time and to document the memorable moments!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an entrepreneur at heart as well as by trade and also the current Mrs. USA Prime Queen Director. The Prime Queens actually just spent a weekend retreat at boat n Hopes and had a blast. Prime is the first-ever personal improvement, self-care National pageant, and mastermind for women. The Queens focus on setting goals, sharing their journeys, and then getting the community involved because no one really thrives in a vacuum. This weekend was about figuring out what that next step looked like and what was needed. We meditated with our toes in the sand, got to know each other, ate all the cards, and explored the local hotspots.
Besides having a few businesses of my own, I love volunteering with local organizations to help mentor and spread awareness of the programs and educational resources that are offered for women entrepreneurs specifically. Beachfrontmyrtle.com will eventually become a catalog of unique experiences to bring families closer together and create bonding opportunities for friends as well. I just took a helicopter ride with Oceanfront Helicopters and it was so exhilarating! We immediately went to the Carolina Winery in Barefoot Landing to celebrate and calm our nerves. lol. We couldn’t believe we did it! But these are the moments that we absolutely look upon to remind ourselves what we are capable of!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Well, before the pandemic, Chris and I have always worked as hard as we could to create the life that we wanted. We struggled with a huge amount of student loans, failed business deals, and family chronic illness. We understood that life is short and if an opportunity looks like it could work, we should take a chance on ourselves. During the pandemic, we weren’t sure what fate would have in store for us. Everyone around the world seemed like they were holding their breath, wanting to know that it was all going to be okay. I know that we were meant to create a special place for not only our family to come to but for others to have that same chance to see that same unforgettable ocean view, feel the warm sun on their skin, smell the salty air that says, yes, we are here and we are alive. We feel lucky every day that we can be the connector for others to experience the calmness and reset that comes with spending time at this beach. I feel like everyone, more than ever needs space to just get away for a while.
