Check Out Kat Oberle’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Oberle.

Kat Oberle

Hi Kat, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a weird kid. Who became a weird teen.
Who became a super weird adult.

Everything I do is in the creative world and stems from that kooky little kid and all her wild dreams.

Rainbows, unicorns, dragons, witches, all the fantasy filled things she wanted to have in her world, are the things I have in mine.

I create art daily and empower people while doing it. What else could I ask for?!

Kat Paints Hair became a real life thing back in 2020, yep, I finished school during Covid. It was crazy. I had actually attended cosmetology school a few years earlier and had quit. I was a single mother workin three jobs at the time and it just was not sustainable. Bills came first. A few years went by and then one day it finally made sense to go back. Life was different. I was in a happy healthy supportive relationship and would actually be able to pursue my license without fighting to survive at the same time.

So, I went back.

I graduated and passed my tests.

And then I was officially offered a booth at my now hair home, Wavelengths Hair Studio. WL is a place full of amazing stylists and barbers, a melting pot of humans that all bring something special to the shop.

I owe alot of my success and happiness in my hair career to this space and the person who created it. It’s allowed me to pursue this journey of mine 100% my way. Being able to be the stylist I want to be, provide the services I want to provide, using all the things I want to use…not having to wear all black every day all day (iykyk)

Ups and downs will always exist, having the right people around me both at home and at work has made all the difference in my life.

The team travels to hair shows together, educate, work with brands, collaborate with some of the coolest people in the industry…my team is awesome and they inspire me to do better and be better daily.

My Unicorns are also a big big big reason for my current standing in life and my career. Unicorns are clients that come in and give me complete freedom to paint/cut their hair however I desire. Oh, and they don’t see it til the end. They fuel my passion and feed my creative fire so to speak. Without people who trusted me to do this job…I wouldn’t have this job.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business is no easy feat. Starting one during covid? Insanity.
Leaving hair school and jumping into booth renting with like zero clientele? Ballsy…and crazy.

The last four years have not been easy. Far from it. There have been so many things happen on every level from personal life to overall world experiences in these last four years. From mental health battles, surgeries, financial stress to world illness and massive costs increases across the board….no, it is not easy.

But, it is worth it. The feeling I get doing hair and seeing the end results and the (hopefully) happy face of my clients…that’s worth the bad days or struggle filled times.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do all the rainbow hair and alternative style cuts! I would like to think I am known for my razor cuts, buzzed hair paintings and overall kooky weird hair! I am really proud of helping my clients embrace their inner weirdo and the ability to help customize their hair to fit their soul more accurately!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Watching football and old westerns with my grandpa…wish i could do that a few more times.
